iTlIf. BALL, Preel
The Tbomorrille mlHtary contin
gency bars been notified that
election of a major of the battalion
la (be Brat reglmeat of which they
are a part, wjtl take place on the
twenty-third ot (SJa month. Thie
notice waa rewired yesterday accom
panted with a report that a military
caucua had been recently bold In Sa
vannah, This eanena waa eompoaed
ot tbo line olloera of the first regi
ment redding la Savannah.
At this meeting it was decided that
the support ot the bnneh would be
given Capt. Dunn of Brunswick tor
(he majorahip and requested that the
Tbomaavllle, Fltxgerald and Valdos
ta companies accord -with'their wish
es and make the election unanimous.
These companies with possibly Way-
cross will compose the sooth Georgia
batallloi.
Ot conraa the sSpport ot the Sa
vannah contigent tor Capt. Dunn will
insure hie election, even though the
whole south Georgia contigent
should vote against him. Capt.
Dnan la without question a fine man
and a good military ofllcer. Bli elec
tion would however be a decided Im
position on the members of the old
fourth. They were switched into the
fourth without warning their old or
ganlxation broken op and disbanded
and all their staff offloen transfer
red or given their dischargee.
Aa any reasonable man can see
they are to say the least entitled to
have some sort of a say In regard to
whom. should be given the major-
chip of their battalion. This the Sa
vannah ofleera propose not to do,
but they intend placing a man there,
who la not even In the district com
posed in the batalllon and whose In
terest would natural]y be elsewhere.
It la very evident that' that bunch
will take the whole hog, even to the
tall and rather regardand treat the
members ot the old fourth, aa Inter
lopers and consider them as things
to be endured because a la necee-
