Mrs. E. A. Crawford's Wednesday
morning's Literary Class will be post
poned until Friday, the 12th.
In mentioning the names of the mer
chants who gave so generously to the
Bazaar, the name of Mr. T. P. Oliver
was omitted. He being a Confederate
veteran Bhould have headed the list.
The presentation of the play, "She
Stoops to Conquer,” by the young ladies
of Lucy Cobb Institute Friday uight
will be one of the moit enjoyable events
of the season. The proctedsgo to the
Lucy Cobb Annual and quite a number
of Athens people will attend in order to
have an evening of pleasure aud at the
same time help the young ladies in their
worthy work.

church in Five Forks occurs the mar
riage of Mr. W. B. Morris and Miss
Georgia Sims. Rev. Mr. Strickland
will officiate. Miss Sims was formerly
a resident of Athens aud has relatives
living here.

The hearing of the motion for a new
trial in the case of Thad Boyd, Jr., now
under sentence of death in this county
for the murder of Henry Oliver, has
been set for the 15th iust. at Russell,
Ga.
At thiit time and place Judge Russell
will hear arguments from Solicitor Gen
eral Brand for the State and Messrs. H-
S West and E K. Lumpkin for the de
fendant.
Should Judge Russell decide not to
grant the new trial the case will be car
ried up to the supreme court. The sen-
tence of dtath has been suspended

This morning at eleven o'clock the
ig auction sale of the stock of Dearing

sales at this place, one at 11 o’clock in
the morning and at 7:30 in the evening.

The North Georgia Conference having
officially joined Oconee Street and East
Athens Methodis) churches at the tes
sion in Atlanta a few weeks since, it
became necessary to select a new board
of trustees and a new board of stewards
for the church,
Monday night the board of trustees
was chosen as follows : Messrs. W. M.
Pittman, Geo. E. Stone, A. W. Ve s, O.
F. Bailey, J. H. Dorsey, A. M. Center
and Parks Hosey. The same boards of
stewards of the two churches will serve
as stewards under the new arrange
ment.
The trustees of Oconee Street church
will receive bids for their church prop
erty and will also receive bids for the
removal of the church building to the
new location and will decide later which
coarse will be better for them to pursue
