THE FAIR ASSOCIATION.
The formil organization of the Northeast Georgia Fair Association in this
city yesterday means mnch to Athens and Northeast Georgia
The charter, application for which has been pnblished in the daily and
weekly editions of The Banner, was granted by Judge Russell yesterday and
accepted by the stockholders at their meeting yesterday.
The following officers were elected by the stockholders to preside over the
destinies of the association for the first year :
Directors: BiUnps Phinizy, J Y. C.irithers, Q B Griffith, O. N. Hodg
son, ,7 F. Rhodes, John R. White, and B. F Holder, Jr.
The following officers were elected : Billnps Phinizy, president; O. B
Griffith, vice president; O N Hodgson, secretary ; B F Holder, Jr., treasurer.
The directors and officers are men of high standing in this community
aDd their names will add strength to the organization throughout this section.
At the meetiug at which these gentlemen were elected there was no desire on
the part of any stcokhoMsr to had. The tendency was to follow ; to work in
the ranks and pnil for the best interests of the association and for which it
stands
The stockholders elect, d a competent committee to draft a constitution
and by laws for the astociatiou. Another meetiog of the stockholders will be
held early neat week at which a report of this committee will he made. Fol
lowing this, the actual, aggressive work will begin. Many committees will
be sell oted to do tlie various work to be done iu connection with arranging
the preliminaries incid-n'to a gn at fair each as it is proposod to hold here
and within the next few weeks the sound of the saw and the hammer will
make pleasant music on the fair grounds.
One of the best race tracks in the South is now being graded at the fair
grounds and within a very few weeks a number of fast horses will be In train-
ing there.
Premium lists for the agricultural and other exhibits will be issued in a
few days, showing that the oocasion is going to offer such inducements to the
farmers and others in this section to come to Athens and participate in onr
fair as will draw a large crowd of exhibitors and attract many visitors here.
The personnel of the officers and directors of the fair association with the
interest and enthusiasm that have been displayed means that Athens will
present to the people of this section of Georgia in October a great and success
ful agricultural fair. This means that the visitors who come to tbe fair will
have a big time here and that the merchants of Athens will have a great
week of trade and open up new channels through which to sell goods and get
ou better tirins with their present customers.
Every Athenian should now lend his hearty snpport to the fair associa
tion iu the efforts being pat forward to accomplised the desired remits.
