SURVEY OF GREAT
WATER POWER
Completed. For Nearly Two
Years Vtork Has Been
Carried on at Columbus.
Columbus, Ga.. December 11.—
(Special).—After having been almost
continuously engaged for nearly two
ears, surveyors have completed the
work of making a survey of the great
water-power of the Chattahoochee riv
er. between this city- and West Paint,
Ga. It has been declared that this
Is the largest water i>ower in the
country, with the exception of Nia
gara. and the result of the surveys
seems to bear out thecs contentions.
In a distance of 33 miles the river
falls 365 feet, affording a mighty- en
ergy that is estimated to be consid
erably over 100,000 horse-power. Most
of this power is owned by the Colum
bus Power Company, a corporation
backed by three and one-half million
dollars of New England capital, an-1"
the surveyors who have just complet
ed their tedious task were in the em
ploy of this company. The company
owns practically all the water power
from this city to a point 25 mile;
above Columbus. *
It is the iiolicy of the Columbus
Power Company to develop these
ltowers from time to time, to meet
the demands from new industries be
established in Columbus and vi
cinity. The company already has
three plants in successful ojK-rati'.-H.
one of them so large that it furnishes
power for nine cotton mills. Plans
have been drawn for another big dam
tnl power nouse two miles north of
the city. The company's mast recon;
plant was completed less than a yea.-
ago.
The- extensive surveys that have
lien made by n corps of trained men,
ying in number from 12 to 20. were
I gain staking arid accurate, and tlie
Columbus Power Company-, having
secured all the preliminary- data that
is desired, can proceed with the de
velopment of the power -as rapidly as
desired. At one point the erection
f a dam 75 feet high is declared to
lie feasible by engineers. At North
Highlands, near Columbus, the ocm-
panv has a dam nearly 40 feet high.
Badly Mixed Up.
Abraham Brown, of Wlnterton, N.
Y., had a very remarkable experi
ence; he says: Doctors got badly
mixed up over me; one said heart
disease; two called it kidney trou
ble; the fourth, blood poison, and the
fifth stomach and liver trouble; but
none of them helped me; so my wife
advised trying Electric Bitters,
which are restoring me to perfect
health. One bottle did me more good
than alt the five doctors prescribed.”
Guaranteed to cure blood poison,
weakness and all stomach, liver and
kidney complaints, by \V. J. Smith
