The Reid’s Chapel Agricultural
Club from near Bremen, Haralson
county, Georgia, held a typical meet
ing in the auditorium of the State
Normal School last evening. It was
the “hit” of many a day!
The young president and secretary
had the meeting in charge and ac
quitted themselves creditably. There
was some good, sound sense in their
reports, talks and essays, albeit a
rare lot of humor.
The humor of the original club
songs was irresistible; the audience
was captivated. The com club song,
sung to the tun© of Yankee Doodle
extolled Mr. J. Phil Campbell, Dr.
Bradford, and other friends of the
“Com club laddies.”
The poultry club song, sung to the
tunc of Dixie, was rich, the chorus
beginning, “And I wish I had a chick-,
en.”
The canning cluo song, arranged
for the music of “The Jolly Student,"
was loudly applauded, the three little
girls looking very winsome as they
beat time with their beribboned
wands.
The children were: Grady Estes,
Ora Estes, Charles Long, Venie Black
mon, Agnes Lewis, and Effie West
brooks. The county agent, Miss Mary
J. Stone, and the club leader. Miss
Effie Lewis, accompanied the children,
whose ages ranged from ten to fifteen
years. Miss Lewis and her charges
leave on the Southern this morning
for Bremen.

The End of All War Near
Very many believe, that the fearful
outbreak In Europe is the last war.
Pressed for a reason, you discover
that such is a hope or wish, and is,
therefore, a mere notion. That is, an
opinion taken without any foundation
upon which to rest it.
However, the idea is well grounded
in fact; and, those anxious to know
the truth and to find a footing for
their belief, should attend Mr’. Var
ner’s lecture Thursday night at the
Holman building. He engages, if you
will but bellev© the Bible, to set up
the same for you mathematically.
In 1910, with many of our great
statesmen and divines listed in the
cause of Peace, Mr. Varner published
a book warning them to expect in
stead the worst war ever visited on
the human race. Surely then he Is
on the right track, and you may do
well to hear him explain. * * *

of fine quality. The peaches are
considerably larger in size than at
the same time last year. Continued
good reports as to market conditions
come from the territory in which the
Georgia fruit is marketed, and the
outlook is that the Georgia crop will
be sold at satisfactory prices.”

ATLANTA ADOPTS TRAP
METHOD OF KILLING FLIES
DESIRABLE LAND FOR SALE
(Special to the Banner.)
Atlanta, Ga., May 10.—The old
method of killing flies with fly swat
ters, which was highly efficient so far
as it went, has given way in Atlanta
to wholesale slaughtering of flies by
means of large fly traps.
After educating the people for
years to the danger of the fly as a
conveyor of disease germs, the local
health authorities have succeeded in
instilling into the minds of young and
old alike a wholesome hatred of the
little pest.
The department has now abandon
ed the festive fly swatter and install-
40 acres with running water, 1 1-2
miles from corporate limits of Athens,
in fork of Lexington and Whitehall
and Beaverdam roads. This is the I ed ^ tb e business anAresidentl-

is tremendously efficient. When set
on the curbstone with a little honey
or sugar or molasses to bait the flies,
it catches them by the thousands, and
every night the health department
takes out the catch and re-sets the
traps.
