The greatest obsccuration of the
moon will occur at 10:32 p. m.,
when 38 per cent of its diameter
will be darkened, and the shadow
of the earth will finally leave the
moon’s face clear and bright at
11:36 p. m.
Astronomers do not take much
notice of eclipses of the moon ex
cept to check up the accuracy of
their calculations. Such eclipses
are common and are visible, as is
this one, over wide regions of the
earth. They are due to the moon’s
passing through the shadow of the
earth which extends hundreds of
thousands of miles into space.
When the moon passes completely
through the. shadow, the eclipse is
total. When it only alipa through
total. When it only allpa through
the edge of the shadow a partial
eclipse results, such as will be
March 2. Sinco the shadow
of the earth is always exactly op-
posito Jo the sun and since the
moon is in that positon it is fall,
all ecllpies of the moon occur when
it is full, which it is, in spite of the
amendment, about
eighteenth
thirteen times a year.
