INTERESTING MEETING
Monday afternoon the Lauara
Rutherford Chapter U. D. C. held
its regular monthly meeting with
the president Miss Mildred Ruther
ford at her delightful home The
Villa at 4 o’clock, over which she
presided in her usual happy way.
The various reports were read
and approved. The feature of the
meeting was the very interesting
talk by Miss Mary Franklin, an
artist of International fame. She
spoke on the hardships and de
privations of the war between tho
states in comparison to She late
world war which were far more
distressing during the former, al
though the War of the latter
was more ■ perilous and horrible.
She also told of the Ladles Aid
Society of which organization her
mother was a member. Miss Frank
lin is nlways entertaining and all
enjoyed very much having her ad
dress them.
Mrs. A. S. Parker read a very
noteworthy editorial taken from
tho New York Sun on the “Re
covery of the South”, suggested by
a recent speech ty President Hard
ing. Mrs. Parker also made a
motion which was seconded and
carried that ten members should

SHARES HONORS IN ATLANTA
Miss Winifred Williams, of
Charleston. 8. C.: Miss Nellie Grey,
of Memphis, Tenn.; and Miss Sarah
Hill, of Athens, Ga., were the
guesta of honor at a spring, lunch
eon at the Piedmont Driving club
Monday morning. Miss Sarah
Schoen received the guests, who
numbered eight of the season's
most attractive debutantes.
Luncheon was served in the gray
room from a round table covered
with a lace cloth and In the center
of which was placed a large bowl
filled with Jonquils and the deli
cate white blossoms, called "breath
of spring,” and most suitable for
group of debutante*. The p;aco
curds were hand-painted with
spring flowers.
Miss Schoen wore a lovely eteeve-
les gown of black Canton crepe,
girdled wlfn a beaded band or Muc
and gray bends. She wore with this
