so even that it looks as if a planer

his fields are smooth and culti

According to army experts,
there is virtually no limit to tha
practical application of these gases
in combating disease.
Through experiments with chlo
rine gas army chemists have es
tablished the fact that epidemics of
influenza, gripe or colds can be
checked .almost instantly by intro
duction of the gas preatly weaken
ed into the rooms occupied by
thorn afflicted.
Experiments linger direction of
Lieut. Col. Edward B. Vedder of
the Army Medical Corps at Edge-
wood are said to have demonstrated
that mustard gas is a specific for
for tuberculosis.
As a result of experiments with
burning gas, known as Lewisite,
army chemists have evolved what
seems to be an efficacious remedy,
if not an infallible cure, for pare
sis and locomotor ataxia- Lewis-*
ite is composed of arsenic and
acetylene gns.
Dr. Lovenhart has the records of
some fnrtf-two cases of persons
committed to insane hospitals with
paresis, which have come under his
treatment by this method. Of this
number, twenty-one have been en
tirely cured nrnl returned Jo lucra
tive employment and seven bid fair
soon to be discharged as cured.
