GREATEST BUYERS OPPORTUNITY
Tomorrow will open the greatest bargain sales
ever offered in Athens. Every buyer in this section
of the state will share in the profits of the merchants’
r sale and receive the benefits which have been pro
vided in every line of business',
iv At no time has there been greater inducements of*
1 fered than at this time for the consumers to get the
very highest grades of merchandise at reasonable
prices and at the same time share in the profits. It
is a'.money-saving campaign and those who do not
V iak* advantage of "Trade Month” in Athens will
he the losers.
Bach week prizes will be given away in addition
to the general prizes which will be distributed on the
closing day, December 4. These major prizes are
1 all Valuable and desirable. It is an opportunity
.Which seldom comes to the buying public and one
which the entire populace should be interested.
’ Athens as a market is one of the best in the south.
| .Here you will find large department stores, shoe
stores, clothing stores, ready-to-wear, drygoods
F stores, hardware and in fact the merchants of Athens
carry just as complete stocks as can be found in At
lanta or arty other city of importance in this section
of the country. The prices are just as cheap and in
maiiy cases cheaper than can be purchased in Atlan
ta, besides the saving of railroad fare and hotel bills.
Tile same grade and .quality of goods, bought from
the "Same manufacturers are sold by the Athens mer
chants that are sold in the larger cities of the state,
but at prices lower. This month is a money .savings
month for the consumer in all the stores of Athens.
Our merchants have opened their stocks to the. trade
of this section and at prices which can not be dupli-
sited and, no doubt, never will be again. It is an
opportunity which comes but seldom in life and
every buyer in this section should avail themselves of
tin's great buyers opportunity.
COMMERCIAL ,HATCftERIES
The Banner-Herald has advocated for sometime
the c ablishmcnt of commercial hatcheries here and
in this section of the state,. Since its advocacy of
these industries, there has been a number of large
plants installed in this surrounding section. The
Savannah Morning Hews in speaking of the industry
has tl.o following to say:
Northeast Georgia is following the load of
South Georgia in installing commercial hatch-
cribs—as well as in the establishment of cream
eries; for fifty years it has boon raising more
chickens and eggs than an y other part of the
| ;-t; te in the natural way . In several North-
easf. Georgia towns, as long ago as twenty-five
years, the express companies had to put on extra
express cars dally to handle the shipments of
chickens and eggs. Now that hatcheries arc
iii:.:alled and Abe business put on a wider busi- .
ness basis the industry should expand enormous
ly.
'Athene citizens should take the lead in the cstab-
livii rent or public hatcheries . There is no Industry
.w hich will pay u larger dividend to its stockholders
and on as small an investment. It will not require
•a largo amount of stock in dollars and cents to estab
lish a number of these hatcheries. The products will
find a ready sale in the markets of tho larger cities
and ar. fast as these chickens can bo hatched, there
w ill be a demand for them.
. The project is worth thinking of and the organi
sation of a stock company would find in its opera
tion .. profitable and substantial business.

SPECIAL SESSION OF THE LEGISLATURE
' Ti ere are rumors going the rounds of the press of
the ; :nte that there is an organized movement to de
feat any tax legislation which may be brought before
tho special session of the legislature which is to con
vene on November 7th. It has been intimated in
the .'.reports or rumors that the purpose of those in
to;. ted in the movement to defeat any proposed tax
me a. ;ro i3 coming from the political enemies of
Governor Walker in order to embarrass him and his
administration. Whether these reports are true or
'ix.tj there seems to be moulding, through some pro-
ccs, opposition to any bill which may be introduced
k. .king towards a sane and substantial tax measure.
It i . to be deplored that such a condition should
arise in this state and the member of the legislature
crhjltv’nf such conduct should be impeached and re-
rr , t from office. Whether a representative has
political aspirations or whether he has political de
signs on the governor to aid in bringing opposition to
hi m next year is not a matter which should Be
ln ought into this all-important special session of the
l. gislature. This call was issued by the governor
for the specific purpose of giving to Georgia a tax
system, which will provide a sufficiency for the sup
port of its educational institutions and for the main-
aanee of the various departments of the govern-'
Whether it was wise action on the part of
e-.emor in calling an extra session is not a de-
ible question nt this time- The call has been is-
twerl and a specific purpose has been stated in the
call and it is a duty and obligation the representa
tives owe to the people of Georgia to meet and work
out some form of taxation which will bring in to the
treasury of Georgia a-aufficiency to meet the ex-
! penscs of the state and to meet the indebtedness ac-
’ crued. The people of Georgia will not submit to
wrangling and bickering on the part of representa
tive,, for political purposes, but they will expect them
to enter into the se sion for the purpose of passing
tax legislation which will relieve the poverty-stricken
condition the state is now in.
