A WELCOME AMD A HANDSHAKE
A welcome and a hearty handshake is extended to
every Old Georgia boy who returns for "Homecom
ing” day, f tomorrow. Information received by those
in authority for the occasion indicates the largest
'gathering of the alumni that has been held irr many
yeqys. Besides the coming of the alumni, thousands
of visitor.’, will he hero from all sections to witness the
Georgia-Virginia football game which will be played
Saturday afternoon. "Homecoming” days at the
university have grown to be important events and
each yjpr the attendance lias increased. ' .
.. Georgia boys will be here from many states and
those residing in Georgia will be here th large num
bers. Many arrived Fridas’ and before the evening
•is overSt is expected that every hotel in the city will
be tr.xfjl to capacity. . Meeting each other and talk
ing over t;chocl days and experiences is quite a treat
for tb£cotlfege man in after life. It carries him
back to the happiest dpys of his life, when respon
sibilities were few rnd pleasures were many. It is
well that the authorities have designated "Home-
coming' 1 day as an annual event and at the same time
provider a game of football for the recreation of the
"‘old boys” as well as for those who are friends of
the university and interested in the institution and in
the athletic sports of the boys who are to be the men
of the tomorrow.
’’ On behalf jpf all Athens, wc .welcome the “old"

1 AMERICA’S STAKE IN EUROPE CANNOT
BE IGNORED
One’of the clearest statements of the present
European situation as it affects the American people
3jas been recently made by President Hlbben of
[Princeton University as a result of a summer’s ob-
n —’align made, by him as first hand while in Ger*
. vi'rnnce, Austria, and other countries.
.. He pbints out that Germany despite its currency
jlBflatic|P'has plenty of food, is making a great deal of
'oney.cwhich it is banking in gold in other coun-
'es, that its great industrial plants are running day
nd night, and constantly enlarging their capacity.
ie ojjfc' class that is apparently suffering in Ger-
anv under present conditions, is that with a fixed
incomef-the laboring class have their wages auto*
ticnlfy adjusted with the fall in the currency—al-
,thc Sinners are enabled to fix the price of their
uducS to keep pace with the mark. He declares
pt the Germans are untiring workers and have
idcntly made up their minds, not as a govern-
entsl’iiolicy so much as due to individual and
group activity to once more dominate the markets
Rithe world.
o Conditions, however, in all tho countries visited
fth perhaps the exception of Austria and Czechc-

Germany and Franco in steadily getting more acute,.
