Jay Gould In Trouble.
It begins te appear as if Jay Gould had
stirred up a hornets' neat of considerable
size. Tho lawyers engaged in the effrrt
to secure the indictment of himself and
Russell Sago for larceny say that his
story about thoir offering to stop all pro
ceedings if he would pay them $500,000,
and if Russell Sage would handover
$ 100,000, is without foundation. They
say that some of the stockholders inter
ested did offer to stop proceedings if res
titution was made of the stock, but ne
effort was ever made to blackmail either
Gould or Sage. They charge George
Geuld with an attempt to bribe them,
saying that he offered them |30,000. The
amount involved in the chage against Jay
Gould and Russell Sage is $6,000,000.
The prevision of the Code touching their
offence is that upon conviction the trus
tee shall make restitution of the property
embezzled and that he ahall also pay 20
per cent of the amount, in addition, to
the ooanty—News sad Courer.
How often it the light of the house
hold clouded by signs of |raelsncholy or
irritability on the part of the ladies.
Yet they are not to be blamed, for they
are the result of ailments peculiar to that
sex, which men know not of. But the
esuse may be removed and joy restored
by the use of Dr. Pierce’s “Favorite Pres*
cription," which, as a tonic and nervine
for debilitated women,] is certain, safe
and pleasant. It is beyond all compare
the great healer of women.
It is one of the best, the price is low and the points
and other repairs are cheap.

The prisoner was Louis Nspoleon. He
wrote to several influential statesmen
and offered, if released, to go and super
intend the work. He secured from the
government of Nicaragua full power to
organize a canal company In Europe, but
hia confinement made it out of the anes-

later he slipped out of prison in a work

shoulder to conceal hia Napoleonic face
