FROM THE ANTHOLOCY.
Account of a sir ad body found under
the porch of Chrifi Church, in Sof

pref rvation.
A circumilance occurred a fbort
t'.me Gnce, while the workmen were
repairing Chrift Church, in thh
town, and cre&ing fome new tombs
under it that deferves to be recorded.
The ground under the porch, at the
entrance of the church, was direct
ed to be dug up, this fpot having
been given tor the erection of two
tombs. At the diitance of fix feet
from the fur Ace, a grave was dis
covered, in which was found a cof
fin of hard pitch pine, commonly
called die northern pine, very little
decayed, which on being opened,
contained another of wood, very
handfomely made snd not in
jured j the Ed of this being lifted,
ihev/ed a body wrapped in tarred
fiieets, that cii being removed
from the face, p relented the c ounce

recently to have dicd j, his face was
fiefh and florid as though juft
.fhaved, the hard to the touch
and every appearance of anew
corpie, from a ihurt and not painful
iUwk ;.f'vo or three fprigs of myr
tle or box green, as juft cut from
the ftalk, were aKb lying op the
out fide of thr tarred fneeis.
Both coffins had on their lids,

duced the wardens to dired the
ccfnn to be titled again and buried,
w hich it is, at the N. E. corner of
church. The Eli under the porch
was yellow clay, mixed with Gmail
Rones, and fome gravel. Whether
the body had been partially em
balmed previous to interment is not
known 5 but the verdure of the fpnga
of myrtle induces one to thick it
may be owing wholly to the exclu
clufion of external air; yet his be
