Boston, Di*i-i*mb*r *20.—At t ie
meetin<{ of the B iliks Dim* at it-
Parker Hon e last *-vmitnj, H F.
Butler reiiterated the |>rin yiples >1
his speeeli delivered at tho.Mhi*
• I'-sex Cltih last Saturday, savins; 1
lave learned hy atituoniative tleela*
ration that the ineiubers of ’lie
Cabinet propose hereafter to ad ere
harmoniously to the Republie.au party
and if they do there never will be
the slightest dimensions between 01
or any or all of them. It tuny
difficult for Mr. Key, the Postmaster*
General, to do that, but I have no
doubt but that he will do quite as
well as soma o} his colleagues in this
regard, for lie is an holiest man, a
gentleman of honest intentions.
There is another goo 1 result from
what I said la t Satunl.iy, and liiaf is
I find myself now eeriift from high
sources as being .% Republican of the
first water.
In speaking of the President’s
S cithern policy General Butler says
'-he first point rf divergence is this, I
would not have withdrawn the troops
•font the South, not that I would not
have tried to conciliate the South.
1 hat is not ihe jHii.it of my diver*
gcncc. It' I had it in my power as j
chief executive of a nation I would
conciliate every true, honest and well |
intended citizens of the South and i
no other man. I would have used j
(he same power to punish every mur- ■
n roii* scrouudrcl and pn.lcct ,
lending citizens to the fu! extent, ol ;
the power given me. Now, what I 1
wish to say to you is this, and I speak i
with all boldness and freedom. Rife, I
property .and liberty are not safe to- J
-lay in the South. I insist that it was j
the duty of the Republican party that !
elected Mr. llayes.it was the duty
of the Republican party, the members j
ot which stoo 1 by Mr. Hayes in the j
contest North and South to ex pec: j
them to sustain them as they sustain* i
ed him. In regard to the appoint- j
"tent of Democrats, Butler said : |

It was amusing to see the air of
importance assumed by the old fraud
as iu> briskly entered a Woodward
tic restaurant yesterday. He
coughed loudly, put bis baud to bis I
breast j.o.-kel, and said to the pro-1
pricior:
1 Ahem—alt—I suppose you have I
wines?”
k Yes, sir.”
“I sa.iposo yoti have wines fit lor |

- I have.”
“And—aliom—you could let me j

“ I can,” answered the proprietor,
and he handed down a wine bottle
which lie had filled with beer slops,
molasses and buttermilk for just such
occasions. The old fraud took a! T!
dccji “ swig,” set the bottle down, j
and as lie drew 1 is mouth clear
around over the right shoulder blade
he said:
“ That goes right to the spot! I'll 1
call in at noon and have you send up
t wei\c bottles !’’
When lie got out doors he seemed
undecided whether to hold his month
opt'' - r shot, and now and then lie
indulged m a horse like cough. He
halved and looked into a candy store
for a minute, but his mouth didn’t
water. On the contrary, itis scowl
darkened, and as lie turned away he
said:
“ Waugh ! I -.vouldn’t even lick a
grindstone if it was sugar-coated !’’
