which she calls “ Boffin’s Bower,”
says in her last report. “ Many

the most humiliating pari of it was

the Moon, Mars, Mercury and
Venus.
The Earth is 740 times smaller
than Saturn, and its mean distance
from us is over 92,000,000 miles.
Uranus can never see us at all, as
it is 1,753,000,000 miles from the
sun.
The temperature in Mercury is
sup iosed to he seven times hotter
thin our torrid zone; therefore, if it
is inhabited it must be by people
very differently constituted from
ourseh es.
It is believed llint Yen ns has an
atmosphere much like ours, and
mountain peaks five or six limes
higher than Teimeriffe, their sides
bright with flowers, and birds of
brilliant plumage.
The Moon never leaves our globe;
iherefoie it is called our sat elite.
Though to us it appears larger than
the stars, it is really smaller than
any of them, but much nearer to
us.
Astronomers have calculated that
the mountains and extinct volcanoes
in the Moon arc higher than any on
uii» earth.
If there were any one on the Moon
t.i sec it, the earth would appear to
ti.vm a magnificent ball. The planets
and sun would move behind it in
brilliant succession.
Our globe appears to Mars as the
morning and evening star.
Trials are at the present time being-
made in France of a nmv equipment
f„r the infantry soldier, designed by
a Council of the French army. Hith
erto the French soldier h is carried
his kit in a pick very aim »r to the
knapsack formerly worn in the
English army ; but in the equipment
now being tried it is packed in two
hags, somewhat resembling haver-,
-arks in shape, made of a kind of oil
cloth, and suspended partly from a
belt, partly from braces, in such a
manner that, the weight is divided
between the shoulders and the hip.
Don’t meddle with affairs of the
house under her charge. You have
no more right to be poking your nose
into the kitchen than she has to walk
into your place of business and give

Don’t find fault with her extrava
gance in ribbons, etc., until you have
shut down on cigars, tobacco, Leer,
whiskey, etc.
D-jn’i leave your wife at borne to

Don’t licit your supper and hurry
off to spend your evenings lounging
around away from your wife. Before
marriage you conldu’t spend evenings
enough with her.
Don’t, prowl in the loafing resorts
until midnight, wasting your time in
culpable idleness, leaving your wife
lonely at home to brood over your
neglect and her disappointment.
Don’t think the woman you pro

to take a brush to her without resist
