Tho Tala of -fcixc Terrible Fire
1 Till tell you tlie tale of the terrible fro 1
It spring*; from the earth—it is dreadful dire.
' r In the dark,
Wintry sky,
See the spark
Upwnrd fly:
Sec it grow
In its Irumo —
See it glow
Into flaine.
Sec it burning and blazing,
See it spring into lite
With a vigor amazing—
How it longs for the strife!
- Uehr the noise ami the rattle,
How It swells, how it grows,
Like the crash of a battle,
Like the clash of the foee 1
See it mailing and rising and touring,
Sec it trying to touch a tall star;
It seems in tiic sky to he soaring
Like a flag of fierce flame from aflir,
See it turning u:id burning and braving—
Sec it streaming and gleaming and red!
..lb, the smoke ill the air is now waving
Like a winding sheet of dull lead.
Hear it laugh with wild glee at each futile en
deavor ' fn
To quench or to quell It# exuberant force ;
It is flaming and free and fantastic forever,
It delights and exults, with no pang of re
morse,
With no pain, with hot passion—mad pnssi. n—
it quivers
PjWith its pennon of scarlet, the bloodiest hue,
With its gleaming streams and its roaring
■ rivers, .
It dares to do nil tilings that flame da os to
do.
llow it durts, how it dances and dashes,
As though it had taken for aim,
To reduce all the world inth ashes
And to fling all the stars into flaine ?
It is glittering and raging it rings its own
*- knell ;> 'iy'
It is allowing its wonderful during—
It is turning the sky into hell 1
How it luzily lingers
With Us swell and its fall;
With its fiery Angers .
Weirdly weaving# pall ;•
With its horrible bisSire,*'
Like the wind in a storm.
With its blistering kisses.
O i face and on form!

A New Invention.
An intelligent farmer ot DesMoines
county lids invented a henojilione,
modelled on the principles of the
telephone, by which one old reliable
hen occupying a central office in th
henery sits on all the nests about the
establishment, leaving other fowls
free to lay egg*^ sem^chtand cackle.^
As soon :ts a new not contains
enough eggs it is connected with the
office by a copper wire, and the busi
ness is settled. The only trouble
with the machine is that it sits so
bard it hatches out the porcelian nest
eggs with the others, so that one
chick in every nest is horn with glass
eyes, and ‘.lie tanner lias to buy and
train a dog to lead it around. This
makes it expensive. **

^Vftor aU has been said or done that
can be, the fact remains the same that
the only true jiroof of the pudding is in
the eating, and every housekeeper must
be her own judge of the merits or de
merits of the various preparations offered
for her use in cooking. ‘To form dny
intelligent judgment, a fair trial, how
ever, is necessary, an-1 this is a’.l that we
ask for Sea Foam. It has stood the test
of chemical analysis as well as practical
use, and notwithstanding tlie fact that
some grocers insist on handling inferior
article* that oiler larger profits, it ha*
attained an enormous sale, and wherever
once fairly .introduced lias sinee had a
constaht and increasing demand. That
all may be induced to give it a fair trial,
we selcet from the vast-number received
a /etc testimonials to the merits of Sea 1'oam.
THE GREAT CHEMIST.
I hereby certify to the purity and great
strength of Sea Foai.i. and recommend it for

SE.U Foax ; t> fhuicceiiJlg commended,
and you will like it if von try it. One
can of , it ia worth tarco ef any other
baking compound. It raves time. It saves
trouble. It saves money. It saves time,
because no delay is necessary for the
dough to raise. It saves trouble, because
very little kneading is required. It saves
money, because in three months’ use the
saving in milk, eggs, and other ingredi
ents will more than pay its cost, and then
it will make forty pound* more bread from
