As a rule, iu order to insure suc
cessful cultivation, wheat should take
its course in a proper rotation. It is
never advisable to sow this cereal on
a poor soil or' on one which has not
been cultivated sufficiently to render
it clean and mellow. Rust and the
fly seldom appear in fields that have
received proper preparation previous
to seeding and been supplied with re
quisite plaut-food. Farmers anxious
to extend their wheat acreage not
infrequently, especially if they be
novices, seed on laud sueffidentiy
cultivated, forgetful that it is much
