Former Governor
Discusses Problems
Atlanta, Gar, March 24.—Speaking
on “Governmental Problems,” former
Governor John M. Slaton, before the
Klwanls club, pointed out a number
of matters which he said were menac
ing the welfare of the citizens of the
| state.
Mr. Slaton said that unless the gov-
; eminent was conducted on sound bus!*
’ ness lines it laid itself open to fail-
1 nre. He pointed out the evil of In
creasing appropriations without in-
| creasing the income in proportion, de-
j daring that such a procedure meant
; ultimate bankruptcy,
j He declared that the appropriations!
I of the state had been steadily increas-!
j
ing for the last several years, but that
the income was not Increasing in pro
portion.
“I believe In more and larger ap
propriations for schools, for better
loads and for every laudable enter
prise. that will advance the state, but
1 do not believe in muking bills when
you haven’t got the money to pay
for them,” Mr. Slaton said.
