board of freeholders. They also elect
state senator, register and county clerk.
New York, Nov. 7.—Returns from

Davidson. Democrat, for mayor of
Baltimore, is elected by probably 3,500

was 5,045.
llie Republicans gain half a dozen
legislators, but the Democrats will have
both houses by and immense majority.
I’astime at the Polls In Baltimore.
Baltimore, Nov. 7.—Tho election in
Baltimore wai comparatively quiet. One

Jno. Driscoll, a Democratic ticket

but the result of animosity between the
two men on other grounds.

Richmond, Va., Nov. 7.—Richmond
gives McKinney and balance of Demo

large as ever given before. The returns
from other parts of the state indicate a
Democratic majority of not less than
25,000. The Republicans concede it by
15,000. Up to this hour the Democrats
have gained eight members of legisla
ture. The estimate is that the Demo

each house. In Henrico county, which
heretofore has been Republican, Davis,

the election of Brackett and the entire
Republican state ticket by a substantial
majority; Russell lias made large gains ;
in the towns, but has lost heavily in,;
Boston.
Eighty-five precincts in Boston give !
Russell 27.908, Brackett 22,810. Only
one precinct is now lacking. This shows
a decrease in the Democratic plurality
over 1887 of about 200, and a decrease in
Russell’s plurality over last year of about

The returns come in slowly. There
are 2,404 precincts in the state. Forty
heard from show net average Demo
cratic gain of 10 to precinct. Foraker’s
majority two years ago was 23,000.
This indicates that the result on governor
will be close and the probability is that
Foraker is defeated. The balance of the
Republican ticket probably elected.
Neal, chairman Democratic executive
committee, claims the state by 5,000 for
Campbell.

instruction and railroad commissioner.
Thirty precincts in Iowa show a net
Democratic gain of 212.
Returns will be slow in coming in on
account of the late hour of closing the
polls and the unusual amount of scratch
ing done. Nearly every part of the
state heard from continues to show
Democratic gains, which in some pre
cincts amounts to a land slide.
Returns are not sufficient to make a
conclusion, but Hutchinson, Republican,
for governor is probably elected by a
largely reduced majority.
Later—The Democrats claim the state
by from 7,000 to 10,009. Chairman Pray,
of the Republican state central com
mittee, does not give it; up, but will
give no figures.
