“Oh! Death thou lovest the beautiful!”
In the woe of my spirit I cried;
For sparkled the eyes, and the forehead
was fair,
Of the little boy that died! -'
We shall miss him when the flowers
come.
In the garden where he played.
We shall miss him more by the fireside,
When the flowers have all decayed:
We shall see his toys and his empty
chair.
That stood close by my side.
And they will speak with a silent
speech.
Of the little boy that died.
We shall see his little mates again,
As they play about our door.
And we shall watch them in their
sports
As we never did before,
And if in the group we see a child
That 's dimpled and laughing-eved
We'll look to see if it may not be
The little boy that died.
We shall all go home to our Father's
house—
To our Father's house in the skies,
V here the hope of our soul shall haye
no blight.
And our love no brokeu ties;
We shall roam on the banks of the
River of Peace
And bathe in its blissful tide;
And one of the joys of our heaven
shall be,
The little boy that died.

It Is A Mystery.
Sunday afternoon, the 21st Mr.
S. G. Walls, living near Pinia
walked out to his buggy shed and
on looking in his buggy, was start
led to find in it a newly born babe
wrapped in a snow white sheet,
with a slip of paper attached
thereto, on which w.is written in
a masculine hand, these words.
“Keep the child until called for.
You will find money on it.”
Upon furthur investigation $10.
was found in a sealed envelope.
The infant was not dressed and
not the least clue as to whose
baby it is was discovered. The
child appeared to be about forty-
eight hours old. and was evidently
placed in the buggy Saturday-
night. Mr. Walls has taken the
little girl into his home, and is for
the present acting papa, pro-tern.
The affair is a dark mystery, and
has created no little excitement in
the community.
Will it be “called for,”?, is the
question.
The news of the sudden death
of Mr. Thomas W. Brown at his
home at Union Springs Alabama.,
last Tuesday night, came flashing
over the wires to his daughter
Mrs E. S. Lasseter, in this city-
last Wednesday morning. Mr.
Brown’s many friends throughout
the county will be pained to learn
of his sad death, as he was
formally a citizen of our county,
having spent the days of his youth
and early manhood in Dooly. At
the time of his death, he was one
of the most- prominent citizens of
Union Springs, and was proprietor
of the popular Josephins hotel at
that place.
Mr. Brown enlisted in the
Confederate army from this coun
ty. He was a member of the
Masonic order, and was buried
with Masonic honors. His many
friends in Dooly deeply sympa
thize with his family in their sad
bereavement.
