Acquitted.
Marcus Vandiver, who was
tried at lliuwassee last Week for
the murder of W. K. Palmer,
was acquitted. The. Jury re
mained out only alroul five hours.
The evidence agnnst Vandiver
was all purely cimitnslancial,
and twenty years having elapsed
since the murder was done, some
of the witnesses were very uncer
tain, and easily entangled. Those
present at the trial sav the ver
dict was a general surprise to
everybody hearing the testimony
of the witnesses still believe Yan-

Mr. Henry Henderson is put
ting a new roof on his barn.
Professor Whatley has almost
completed his map of tho Calhoun
property.

B. club to accept their challenge.
They did not know before that
the morality of the club was lia
ble to he corrupted hy playing.
The club here claims that they
are champions of Blue crock, us
the club was informed from Cleve
land, Shout creek, and Mossy
creek.
One of the important measures
that vill come up before tho
Georgia legislature' will ho the
quarterly payment of the public
school teachers. It is a shame
that our great public benefactors;
who are the common school teach
ers, should he so poorly paid;
and that, the payment should he
deferred until thaypry last month
of the year, and sometimes in
January and February of tho
year following, is a great injustice
to every teacher in the state.
