IMow We Pay Our Taxes?
This is a serums question at this
time. We heard a gentleman, who
und< rst nda the situation, remark this
morning, that there is not m
enough in, Bartow County to aqswei
this purpose, and wo suppose the-snnie
difficulty exists in every comity iu the
State. Another question of equal im
portance, demands the serious, sober
consideration of our people, aud that
question i i h/no shall our taxes be reduc
ed in Ike future? Let retrenchment
hereafter be our watchword, aud let
ui hold our Legislators responsible if
it is not accomplished We have beet
oppressed aud plundered by those in
authority until our stock of patience
has become vveU nigh exhausted, aud
forbearance lias al uost ceased to be a
virtue. There is no sense, nor justice,
Bur necessity for a favored few, and
most of them basely unworthy, to con
tinue to have unrestrained access to
the people’s packets, while the couu
try is groaning in poverty and upon
the very verge of bankruptcy. Vox
populi vox del; aud that voice should
sty to those who should be our ser
veantn, “Thus far shalt thou go, and
no farther!” It is high time that the
days of extravagant and reckless ex
penditures of the hard earnings of the
people should be ended, and a more
reasonable, sensible and just policy in
augurated, aud this can be done if ou;
people will show themselves to be in
earnest about the m itter. How long
shall we be cursed with the accursed
rules of those whose ambition is, not
to promote the country’s good, bat to
fleece the people, and to line their cor
rupt lens with the spoils of office!
Ho.v forcibly do we fed truth of the

Several celebrated trotting horses

10U The Legislature of this State
vill assemble on the first Wednesday
in November next and is limited by
♦he Constitution to a session of forty
days unless extended by a two-third’s
m t.e <f both H< lists. The great
amount of important ) nsiiiess which
will 1 e east upon this Legislature from
the del ris of radicalism will, in all
probability, make the next a long and
vastly important session.
Ben. Butler, the tnief, has come to

Radicals which we thought strong
enough to retain the most filthy putri

nauseating emetics.
In a speech at Francisco, Hon. S. S.
Cox, speaking of the taxes said: Ah !
these taxes, taxes, radical taxes ! Tax
on your clothes and tax on your axes!
We are taxed on our matches, our
tools and our rents. We are taxed on
our dollars and taxed on our cents.
We are taxed on all goods by kino

we attain to that heavenly goal, thej

The American Washer Save*
Money, Time atul Drudgery
Tin? Atigt|p qf Washing Day no Longer
Dreaded, but Economy, Linciciic/, and Clean
Clothing. Sure.
In calling public attention to this little ma
chine, a lew of the invuiliable qualities, (not
possessed by any other Washing M. chine yet
invented, are here enumerated.'
It is the smallest, most compact, most porta
ble, most simple in construction, most easily
operated. A child ten years old, with a lew
hours practice, can thoroughly comprehend
amt effectually use it. There is no adjusting,
nos .u na,»y, uo delay iu adapting I It
is atway.sre.uly lor use ! It is a perfect little
wonder 1 U is aimniatpre gfuiw, ioing more
work aufi of a botciv ,|uaGy.. that the most
elaborate and costly, one half of ihe labor is
saved by its use, and the clothes will last one
half longer than by the old plan of the rub
board. It will washtlie largest blanket. Three
shirts at a time, washing thoroughly! In a
word, the abluifc uof a*iy rftbrie, fiom » Quilt
to a E;h*e-t'urtain or Cambric Hnndkerchiel,
are equally within the, capacity of this little
GEAI! it cau be fastened to any tdb and taken
off at will.
No matter how deep rooted a prejudice may
exist against Washing Machitles, the moment
this little machine is seen to perform its won
ders, all doubts of its cleansing efficacy and
utility are banished, and the doubter and de
tractor at once become the fast friends of the
machiiH.
We have testimonials without end. setting
torth its numerous advantages over all others,
ami lrorn hundreds who nave thrown .aside the
unwieldy, useless machines, which have signal
ly failed to accomplish the object promised
in prominent and loud sounding advertise
ments.
It is as perfect for washing as a wringer is for
wringing. The price another paramount in
ducement to purchasers, has been placed so low
that it is within the reach of every housekeeper,
and there is no article of domestic economy
that will repay the small investment so soon.
$5.50.
All that is asked for this GREAT
LABOR SAVER, is a fair trial. We
gnuriutee each machine to doits work
perfect Iy.
