Hpodal Premium*. 1872.
The following Special Premiums, for the
Third Annual Exhibition of the Centra*
Uherokec Georgia Agricultural Association,
1872. will be awarded to the fortunate ones
•who may excel in producing the finest and
best articles, greatest variety, enumer
ated in said list. We respectfully ask that
every citizen in Bartow and adjoining coun
ties, whe feels interested in the develop
mont of the resources of this section of coun
try, he or she select and offer a special pre
mium on some article of home production,
from One Dollar up as "high as they may feel
able and willing to go. We announce these
thus early in order that arrangements may
be made in time for their production.
A meeting of the Executive Committee
will be convened, in a few days, when ar
rangements will be made for holding a
meeting of the stockholders at an early day,
for the purpose of electing new officers for
the ensuing year, and making such other
alterations and amendments as may be
thought necessary and advisable. Let every
district and quarter intending to take stock
in the next fair, bo represented in the re
organization so that they may have an equal
voice; and let us, one and all, laying aside
all sectional strife and personal preferment,
take the advice of our worthy orator, lion.
Thomas Hardeman, jr , and go to work, and
all work together, in the development of
our vast material resources, and in build
ing up our own country and enriching our
own home mechanics, farmers, merchants,
Ac., and no longer continue to exhaust our
means and energies to build up and enrich
other sections and people who are not of us,
to the detriment of our own interests.
In no better way can we do this than by
offering, not only premiums, but Special
Premiums, for the development of these
varied interests in mechanics and agricul
ture, &c. We will keep this list standing
for the purposejjof adding others to it. Who
will keep the ball rolling by reporting to
us, at once, other special premiums:
By Capt. 1). W. K. Peacock.
For the largest, most varied, and best as
sortment of Canned Fruits, Preserves and
Jellies, by one lady, . . Prern. $lO in gold.
By Col. Abda Johnson.
For the largest crop of cotton raised, l»y
a boy under IG years of age, on one acre ot
ground Prern. $lO in gold.
By Col. J. .T. Howard.
For the greatest yield of wheat (not less
than forty bushels per acre,) to be grown
on one acre of ground, to be measured, cut,
threshed and weighed in the presence of
three disinterested parties. Prern, S2O in
gold.
Mr. Francis Fontaine, of this county, en
tered his stock, &c., at our late fair, “for no
premium.’' He deserves the thanks of all,
and he will please accept ours, for this act
of disinterested ambition and unselfish ri
valry.
J. W. Harris, of this place, en
tered some thirty odd articles of domestic
and rustic housewifery, at our late fair, and
carried off' thirteen premiums. Iler rustic
basket stand was an ingenious piece of me
chanism, enlisting both taste, labor and pa
tience, and deserves something more than
a mere mention. We hope that all our lady
citizens, of both town and country, will
as far as they can manifest an equal interest
with her in making our annual exhibition*
interesting. All that was on exhibition at
our late fair, in the ladies’ department, was
of very superior quality, displaying a taste
for design and execution highly commenda
tory and truly gratifying. What was on
exhibition, we challange the world to beat.
All we ask to make this department perfect
is for the interest and effort to become a
little more general among the ladies.
Col. Tumlin’s fine flour, ground at bis
own new mills, on Etowah river below this
place, took a premium at our late fair. We
can and do add our meed of praise to this,
if the sack he presented to us be a sample.—
The wagon which brought ours contained
two other sacks, consigned respectively to
Rev. T. E. Smith and Rev. R. B, Ileaden.—
Col. T. has sent the former gentleman two
sacks on account of his late double respon
sibilities. He assures us his mill is turning
out forty pounds of fair flour to the bushel
of this year’s crop of wheat. Col. TANARUS., like
ourself, hae his faults and weaknesses, but
■ot withstanding this fact, he is. withal, a
very liberal-hearted and whole-souled gen
tleman, or, at least, he has demonstrated
these traits of character in all his dealings
and intercourse with ns.

BThe closing ex rci.sea of the
Fair on Friday evening last, were in

After the horse-racing was over, tile
Marshal of the day, Mr. Aaron Collins,
announced to the people that the
Tournament riding was next in order,
which announcement was received
with a; plause b> the vast multitude.
In due time the Knights made their
appearance in the arena, nicely and
tastefully* uniformed, ready for the
spirited contest which was soon to
ensue. After riding around the in'
closure of the amphitheatre several
tames, the Knights repaired to the
place fiom which they were to start,
and from thence, each in his turn,
went forth, at full speed, severing
the heads, and throvxing ihe ring*
high in the air, during which the
greatest excitement prevailed among
the spectators. Each having ridden
his three rides, the people were inform
ed that the names of the Knights win
ning the prizes, would be announced
from the stand in the amphitheatre;
to which place they at once proceeded
When everything was settled down"
and order restored, the Knights again
appeared within the arena, and halted
in front of the stand, where stood Col*
Abda Johnson, who was to make
known the result of their riding, and
he designated Mr. John Vaughan, of
Pine Log, winner of the First Prize
and Capt. "W. H. Stiles, the Second,
and the other Knights an excellent
supper, and it is of this supper that
we now propose to 6f<ak. Having
been invited to report at Bridges
Restaurant at 7 o’clock in the evening,
we did so, and looking around, came
to the conclusion at once, that it was
“good to be there.” The supper was
partaken of by the Knights, Judges
and several outside friends, numbering
m all, about thirty, and a more lively
jolly crowd never came in contact. —
The table was about twenty-five feet
long, and laden with innumerable
good things the 1 preparation of which,
would have done credit to “old man
Epicure, or any other man.” Toaat
after Toast was offered and roponded
to by first one, and then another of
those “gay and festive busses,” and
they all beluuged, without a single
exception, to that jovial family, known
and distinguished as the one to which

a certain youth belonged, who gloried
in the appellation of “Champagne

to the eatables, and the drinkables
were not in the least slighted. We

Supper every night. We say unhesi
tatingly that jt was the most brilliant
affair ever witnessed in Cartersville,

Mr. R. L. Sellers has the thanks of
all present, for the very active part he
took in the Tournament, from begin
ning to end. May his shadow never
grow less.
Suppor over, the crowd dispersed,
and those who were unable to do so
without, were assisted, and “Put in
their little beds,” and gently admon
ished to “think of their heads in the
morning.” Thus ended the most
jovial occasion known to the denizens

The maxim that the voice of the people is
the voice of the divinity, may in some cases,
be open to doubt, but the testimony of hon
est and enlightened witnesses extending
through a scrip* oi years, and all to the same
purport, is worthy of credence, admits of no
question. Upon such testimony the repu
tation of Ifostjtter's Stomach Bitters as au
antidote and cure fr many ailments is
based. Dark) a* ihe twenty years that it has
been before the world, innumerable prepa
rations intended to compete with it, have
gone up like rockets, and come down the
extinguished stjeks. Meanwhile the prog
ress of that, incomparable tonic has been
switl and steady— always upward and on
ward like the eagle's ft.gilt. Its introduc
tion produced a revolutiqct in therapeutics,
an 1 it proved to be one of those salutary
revolutions thkt. cannot go backwards. To-'
day Hostetters Bitters is one of the most
popular remedies in Christendom, and com
mands a larger sale than any other medicin
al preparation, domestic or imported, on
this side of the Adlautie. Asa cure for
dyspepsia, billious disorders, nervous affec
tions, general debility, and as a preventive
of epidemic fevers, it takes precedence of
every other remedy. This fact should teach
the ambitious country dealers who endeavor
to foist their local abortions on the public in
its stead, how futile their small attempts to
cajole the community must necessarily be.
