from Iler. Mr. Fulwood, on the subject

eye, and I regard the enterprise «o im
portard tliuf X mu xed tu sugga.vt a few
thoughts endoi.-lug the appeal made
to Methodists in the State, praying for
assistance to carry out the laud ible
undertaking. All who feel a true re
gard for the well-being of Southern
Methodism, and earnestly desire to see
our form of Christianity taka root i:i
new cities, towns and villages, mast
necessarily respond to this call from
our seaboard city, Brunswick, and at
once contribute of their means to the
erection of a suitable house of worship
to the true God. Enable tho station
ed minister, by goneroiw donatioi.s, to
command the services of a competent
architect to place before the people a
neat, commodious aoJ attractive build
ing, selecting u central, eligible lot huf
ticie.itly capacious for the accommoda
tion of a Parsonage, which shall cor
respond with the Church. Hitherto
our Methodist people have been too
iudiilesent to the requirements of our
progressive age, and if we wish to keep
abreast with other Christian denomi
nations, we must in some measure de
part from the “old land-marks,” and
give mere attention to external attrac
tiveac.ss, which need not by any means
conflict with inward spiritual growth.
The tastes <sncl feelings of the young
i ust also be consulted, by introducing
good music, led by those who have a
knowledge of the art, securing harmo
ny in the anthems of praise we offer.—
The attendance upon our ministry will
then be increased, and great good will
follow, to the honor and glory of God s
holy name. Alay God speed the Bruns*
wick Church.
An Old Methodist.
Macon, May 22d, 1870.
The above communication, from “An
Old Methodist,” we copy from the
Southern Christian*Ad vacate, on account
of its } emliar adaptability to the con
dition of things in our own midst.—
Tlie Methodist E. Church in Carters
ville is an old and somewhat dilapidat
ed building, by no means worthy of
the cocgiogatioms that, from Sabbath
to Sabbath, assemble within its decay
ed yet hallowed walls. It has a mem
bership that numbers well nigh on to,
or quite, two hundred souls; and, per
haps, nope of that number are so poor
as to bo beneficiaries of its charities,
while tho larger proportion of them,
to say the least of it, are very well to
do in liA, und could contribute tfciii
unto towards replacing, upon the same
site, a building that would l-eflect cred
it upon the liberality of the community.
At the last church meeting it was re
solved to build anew church edifice,
and a committee was 'appointed to so
licit contx-ibutions fox- that purpose.—
Will the friends of religion open their
hearts, and out of tho abundance ot
worldly goods that God has given
them, contribute a small amount to
wards this benevolent enterprise?—
Come, friends and brethren, we do not
propose to beg you for money, bo;
simply give you an opportunity to
manifest your lovd for the cause of
God and humanity, by subscribing lib
erally for the purpose of building a
house for the Lord. If you refuse it,
blight and mildew and canker, may, in
God’s providence, bo visited upon your
worldly prospects, and spiritual death
ensue.
Slather SiidHibrent.
