PatiUo, who is agent for the sale of the celebrated Grover & Baker Sewing Machine, and is, also, one of the most reliable, prompt and worthy Tailors in upper Georgia. He is a useful and active citizen, a quiet, unassuming Christian gentleman, and we gladly re commend him to the patronage of our people generally. esrif you want to buy a nice farm, just 2 1 miles from town, where you can bu quiet, drink good water and breatho pure air, ami raise your owu cotton, Corn, wheat, clover, stock, poul try, vegetables and fruits, call and see, or address, J. Wikle & Wood, at $2 per annum. It is to be democratic in politics, and, be sides, devoted to agriculture, Science, Literature, &c. The first number will be issued on or about the 14th of July proximo. Wo extend to these gentle men a cordial welcome into our midst,* .apd sincerely hope that they will meqt •‘■with that liberal patronage their naer its so justly demand. Way* - We are hapyy to see in cur town the familiar face of Mr. Ezekiel Cand ler, who, we believe, graduated at the Cherokee Baptist College, at Cassville, some years since. We are glad to learn that he contemplates settling down in business here. We give him a hearty welcome. JBfe>“Col. Stansell, an eminent law yer in Southwest Georgia, was on a visit to our town, last week, making arrangements to move up his family at an early day. He bought property here, during lust year. ffguWe hope the day is not far dis tant when the iron horse will speed his course up that beautiful valley tra versed by, what is known as, the Ten nessee Hoad, leading from Cartersville to Fairmouut, and on into Northeast Georgia, and return with heavy laden trains of the rich productions of that section of our county and the State.— That is all that the country along this route needs to make it tbo wealthiest and most desirable portion of the south. clover, grass, and grain fields of Mr. A. B£%»Read double-column headed “Cherokee Rose,” and learn where you can get your nice Perfumery, &•.. On Thursday last, we had the pleasure of seeing the “Buck Eye Reaper and Mower” in operation, and are free to confess that it fully comes up to all that the Manufacturers claim for it. Mr. Gilbert, of this place, who is the agent for the sale this num ber one machiue, and who solicited cur presence on the above named day to witness the reaping of Mr. Nelson Gilreath’s wheat, assures Us, that with a pair of good mules, the “Buckeye” will reep from 12 to fifteen acres of wheat perday, and we have every reason to believe the statement, from the fact that Mr. Gilbert is a gentleman of un doubted veracity. Asa general thing, our confidence in regard to these new fangled agricultural implements which are being bought daily, and with which the South, especially, is being flooded at this time, is very limited, and some no doubt, would consider us radically “old-fogy ish” in consequence, end remind us of the important fact that the present is an age of “progression,” and that we are far in the rear; this may all be true, and we will not try to refute the charge, but we do think that we are always ready to surrender when convinced; we have been con vinced fully of the utility of the “Buck eye,” and therefore recommend it to the farmers of this country, as the best machine of the kind in use. It cuts clean, does not knock down the wheat, and cuts as much in one day as a good cradler can in three, as many gentlemen who have seen it in opera tion will testify. These Machines are manufactured by C A nit man & Cos., Canton, Ohio, and are for sale by W. H. Gilbert & Cos., of this place. It mows clover and the grasses } in the same ratio that it does wheat. We ask attention to the advertise ment o f this Celebrated Medicine, which is attracting go much attention all over the country. It is said that Medical Science has failed hitherto to furnish a Medical agent for purifying the blood equal to it. It penetrates at once to the seat of disease, and eradicates all impure matter from the system. Over 100,000 bottles of it was sold last year. ■ —-—-—■*»*> fiffjuMr. W. P.
