Night in Ge- rgiu ! slurry n'ght 1 Thy beauty thrills my inmost heart, And tills me with a deep delight, That bids all earth-worn thoughts depart. The breeze is but the summer’s s gh, Breatiicu o'er perfumed flowers lair, And as she passes murmuring by, Her low, sweet echoes wake the air. And soft the tender moonbeams fall Along the dark sweet-scented green, And earth seems glorified o’er all, With misty, undulating sheen. The dear old bills are crowned with light, As silent sentinels they stand, And in the solemn hush of night, They seem to guard the slumbering band' The towering pine nods to the breeze, And waves its feathery tufts of green, Then slow sinks back to drowsy case, With all the grace of fairest green. And from the near woods shadowy deep* The mocking bird, in swelling lays, Sings while the weary hind still sleeps, His matchless midnight hymn of praise. Oh ! pitying Father In Thy love, Breath*, o’er our troubled land to-night The peace that lifts our hearts above To Thee, who art our life and light. Look up ! despairing soul, and see The stars of hope that guide us on, The precious Heaven and rest for thee, \\ hen strife, and toil, and cares arc done. Myra. The following beautiful lines we clip from the Macon Telegraph, were re peated during the closing ceremonies of the Wesleyan Female College, at the late commencement session. BACCALAUREATE. CONFERRING OF DEGREES. PA RTING SONG. THE CLASS. Tirao is ever slowly ebbing, Brightest hopes are soonest gone; Youth’s pleasures, too, are transient, Fad ng, ere they’re fairly won. But tlie memory of school hours In our hearts will be most dear, Tinting with the hues of beauty of sorrow-, toil, and care. RESPONSE. Go ye forth, then, dear companions, Calmly view the held of life, Steadfast in the path of duty, Quail not in the coming strife. And when dark’ning cares assail you, Seek and find in Heav’n a guide; Placing trust in God, our Father, Good, not evil, shall betide. ALL. Here we part, and yet, though sevt red Are the bonds that bind us here, Friendship’s claim shall ne’er be brok en, But shall hold us ever dear. And while through this world of troub ie, All, perhaps, may widely rove, Guided by the Star of Heaven. May we meet, at last, above ! The French Salutory, by Miss Baxter was read in charming style, and must have been a splendid production; it certainly was above the criticism of the audience. Now we, personally, didn’t understand a sentence in it, neverthe less, we felt for the first time the force of Owen Meredith’s lines: “Whetie'er I hear French spoken as I approve-, I feel myself quietly filling in love.’’ Last came Miss Baxter, of Carters ville, whose composition may be sum med up in the quotation with which it concluded: “Give me neither poveity nor riches; feed me with food conven ient for me: lest I be full and deny Thee, and say, ‘Who is the Lord '{' or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of the lord in vain.” This com position was the crowning glory of the programme; anfl, so saying, we need say no more. —Macon Tel. How ihe Wood Goes. —The present consumption of wood in the United States is enormous. It is the centre of our being, around which revolves all that makes existence happy. When this source is corrupted the painful effects are visible in many shapes, prominent among which is SCROFULA. This is a taint or infection of the human organism, and probably no one is wholly free from it. It exhibits itself in various shapes—as Ulcers and Sores, Decayed Bones, Diseased Scalp. Sore Eyes, Weak and Diseas ed Joints. St. Vitus’ Dance. Foul Discharg es from the Nostrils, Eruptions, Glandular Swellings, Throat Affections, Rheumatism, Heart Affections, Nervous Disorders, Bar renness, Disorders of the Womb, Dropsy. Syphillitic Affections, Liver Complaint, Salt Rheum, Dyspepsia, Neuralgia, Loss of Man hood and General Debility. It has been the custom to treat these dis eases with Mercury and other Mineral sub stauces, which, though sometimes producing a cure, often prove injurious and entails misery in after life. The long known inju rious properties of these so-called alteratives and purifiers has led the philanthropical man of science to e the arena of na ture, the result of which has been the discov ery of vegetable products which possess the power of eradicating these Taints from the Blood. Dr. TUTT’S Compound Extract Os Sarparilla and Queen’s Delight, Is the acknowledged antidote to all Blood Diseases. By its use the afflictions above enumerated can be permanently banished, and the Source—the Centre of Life—the Blood, be maintained in all its purity and vigor. For Diseases produced by (he use of Mercury, and for Sypliillis, with its train of evils, this com pound is the only sure antidote. To the poor creature, enfeebled in mind and body, by secret practices, whose nerves are unstrung, and countenance downcast THE SARSAPARILLA AND Queen’s Delight is a blessing. Try it fairly, and your nerves will be restored to their wonted vigor, and your dejected countenance be made radiant with the conciousness of RESTORED MANHOOD. Being free from violent minerals, it is adapted to general use. The old and the young may use it; the most delicate female at any time may take it; the tender infant, who may have inherited disease, wiil be cur ed by it. FOR PURIFYING THE BLOOD XJSIii DR. TUTT’S Extract of Sarsaparilla AND RUEEI’S DELIGHT When used in the Spring it removes all hu mors which infest the system ; and banishes the languor and debility peculiar to thataea son of the year. It acts promptly on the LIVER AND KIDNEYS, Producing a healthy action of the important organs by which all theimpuritics of the sys tem are carried off, and the result is A Clear Skin, a Good Appetite, and Bouyant Spirits.
