Hartowv ili.b, Jan. 28, 1807.
The friends of Col. R. C. SAXON
announce him a candidate for Judge of
the County Court of Bartow, made va
cant by the death of Judge Trippe.
R. HENDERSON,
4. BOGLE.
We are glad to learn that Rev.
C. A. Evans, ttajt esteemed pastor of
the Methodist E. Church in this place,
contemplates fix ng up the old grave
yard on Petit’s C reek where old Ebe
nezar Church formerly stood. This is
a step in the righ. direction. We also
recommend that the new Baptist Church
grave yard be carried through the same
process ; and more particularly as the
work of resurrecting the remains of the
Federal soldiers has just closed, which
makes the grave yard look very ragged.
This grave yard i?i situated on a beauti
ful eminence overlooking the town, and
the burial of the dead, at that point,
should be discontinued, except by those
who have already! commenced hurrying
there, and yard ornamented and en
closed. It is unfortunate for our town
that it was opened there, but as it is too
late now to remedy it, let us beautify
it, both for the sake of the dear ones
whose remains now sleep there, and
the town in which (it is located.

The next session of my school will
open on Monday, 111 h February.
All the branches usually included in
a regular classical and mathematical
course will be taught. Young men will
be prepared for any class in college they
may desire to enter.
The school is at my residence, An

the Western & Atlantic Railroad, in the
beautiful valley of die Ooolhealoga.—
The location ie, therefore, a very pleas*
aut one, accessible jfrom all points, en
tirely healthful, am removed, in a great
degree, from temptations to idleness
and dissipation.
A few students w II be taken, as here
tofore, into my own family. Others,
by arrangements recently made, can
obtain good board in the neighborhood,
at most reasonable pies—lower, per
haps, than at any oilier similar institu
tion in tint country. Parents desiring
further information, can apply for cir*

regards the election for Judge of the

W«UWe learn from he Rome Courier

order was to arrest ah persons concern

TEST OATHS. —Tne adverse de
cision of the Supreme Court of the U—
mted States to the consiitulionalitv of
the “lest oaths’" imposed byCongress
will leu', wo hope, to a marked im
provement in the Federal officials in
the Southern States, The “test oaths”
prevented ninety-nine out of every
hundred of our people from holding
the Federal officers in our midst They
went, therefore, by default, in many in
stances, into the hands of unworthy
and competent (itizens ofthe Southern
States, and still more frequent the offi
cials were unsvmpathized aliens, whose
presence in our midst is a perpetual and
hateful reminder ofthe faiiute ol our
noble struggle.
In some of the Southern, cities the
officials are strangers, who came in
with the conquerors, and have nothing
in common with the people. Many of
these men have behaved well and have
won the esteem of our people, while
others made themselves as odious as
possible” There now exists no rea
son why the offices at the Soutli should
not be filled by Southern men. The
interests of the government would, for
instance, be greatly promoted by the
appointment of popular, capable and
honest Southern men to all the places
connected with the collection of the
internal revenue, where a mo>t inti
mate knolledge ofthe people of indis
pensable to the official. “The policy
of reconciliation ” is popular with the
President, and he cannot earry it out
more effectually than by interesting
the Southern people in the numerous
offiaes in our midst .Among the first
ruits of the action- ol the Supreme
Court is demolishing the “test oath’
will, we hope, be a change iu that nu
merous class of officials who, in the
collection of revenue, <s*c., represent
the Treasury Department. —Richmond
