at the Court-house in tliis place, on
Tuesday last, to consult together as to
what is best to be done to secure our
country from impending ruin, either by
adopting the Congressional plan of Re
construction, or remaining passive.—
The day being very unfavorable ow-ing
to the inclemency of the weather, and
the meeting being very thinly attend
ed, the meeting was organized by call
ing Judge J. R. Wilde to the Chair,
and Maj. Wm. Milner to act as Secre
tary. After some discussion, pro and
con, Col. Warren Akin moved to ad
journ the meeting over to Wednesday,
the J3th inst., and that a Committee
of Seven be appointed (Capt. C. W.
Howard being chairman,) to prepare
matter for the next meeting. The
mo lion was carried, anti the Chair ap
pointed the following committee :

maugua Railroad bridges washed a
way, on last Wednesday night. The
trains that passed up this Road night
before last returned yesterday morning,
not being able to make the connection
with the trains above. We also learn
that three bridges on the Nashville At
Chattanooga road have been swept oil.

Judge of the County Court of Bartow,
on Monday last, was that J. R. Wikle
was elected over R. C. Saxon by a
considerable majority. But little in
terest was taken in the election.
