A freight car which left the track
at Rogers station yesterday morning

the roof last Thursday but was extin
guished without serious damage. It

ture to make county office tenures
four years certainly commends itself

Mrs. C. A. Trevitt came over from
Rome last week and joined her hus
band at the Shelman, where they have
taken rooms.

Mrs. Elizabeth Carlisle, of the
Sixth district in this county, secured
first premium on quilts at the state
fair. The winning quilt had in it
80,250 pieces. It won in a competi
tion of 25 or 80 quilts.
Judge A. W. Fite received a letter
yesterday from his son, Cadet Conyers
Fite, at West Point Military Acade
my, saying that that splendid young
man was ill with fever in the hospital,
but his condition is not serious. If
lie should not improve in a few days
it is likely Judge Fite will go to
West Point to be with him.

Before leaving Savannah where he
had been attending the state f Jr,
Capt. T. J. Lyon presented the
city with the Bartow county mineral
exhibit, which was accepted by the
city council, and a suitable place will
be provided in one of the public
buildings of Savannah to display it.
This exhibit won a prize of *SOO.
