DOF IGIVE PRESENTS
that people can’t use Give them what
they want It you don’t know, ask
them. Don’t give a man a put! box or
a woman a pocket knife. Give useful
gifts, give clothes, shoes, hats, waists,
linens, furs, if you think people need
them, without tl e slightest hesitation.
Mevsure the old garment and pick out
an overcoat or wrao ; look in the old
shoe for the number, so the new ones
would tit. Give children warm suits’
■dresses, hats, stockings and underwear;
don’t stuff them on candy. Santa Claus
looks after that. Give the wife dainty
linens for the dining room, blankets for
the bed, rugs for the floor rice flannels
for the body. Give the husband anew
suit, shirts, gioves, nobby hosiery; then
toolishness will he spared and money
saved.

The above illustration, mado
from the engineer’s finished draw
ing, showing the plan* as it is now
proposed that the same shall fi
nally be. gives a fair idea of what
Cartersville has secured in the way
of a cotton mill, now in course of
erection a short distance from town,
and wbic 1 will largely be under
roof, the weather permitting, by
January 15th to February Ist, pos
siblv sooner.
The picture, however, does not
give a complete idea of what is ac
tually going on out at the works,
and 'as great progress has been
made since we last mentioned this
subject in our print, we feel that
additional remarks will be perused
with interest by our readers.
Work is rapidly progressing on
the second floor of the main mill
building, and the entire brick
work of this building should be
completed within the next two or
three weeks. The building will
be 130 feet wide oy 640 feet long,
three stories and a sub story, or

basement, which will be utilized
tor power transmitting purposes.
It is proposed that the shafting
which is to drive the machinery on
the first floor of the mill shall be
placed in the basement, which will
give the first floor the advantage
of not having any belts to obstruct
the light or to mar the appearance
of the room, as is always the case
when the belts are driven from
overhead. The brick are of local
make, made, in fact, by the Cart
ersville Brick Cos., and as laid in
the walls are giving a beautiful
effect, very rnucli the appearance
of pressed brick, in fact. Red mor
tar is being used, and the joints
are all carefully pointed. The
brick work is truly beautiful, and
it has been so pronounced by mill
men from other places; and indeed
the general verdict is the same,
that the mill will be more attractive
in the matter of the brick work than
any mill that has heretofore been
erected in the south.
In addition to the main mill,
