Drawer S. Atlanta, Ga. “A BOWLD SOGER ROY.” One of the Macon Volunteers and His Ability as a Drummer, SAMUEL DUNLAP, OF ATLANTA, GA. The excellent picture w r e present at the head of this column, is of a man who is as well and favorably known in his capacity as a traveling man or “drummer” as any one man in the United States. Mr. Dunlap 6nid in conversation recently: “About four years ago I had a severe attack of rheumatism, which completely disabled me for a time, and which developed into what is com monly called ‘chronic,’ attacking me when least expected, and laying me up entirely; in capacitating me for auv kind of business, and causing me as much suffering in a day as should be crowded in a life time. After one of my most severe attacks, and when I had just got able to hobble around, I met J. M. Hunnicutt. an old friend, and he said he could make a remedy that would cure me, and, by gracious, lie did. I took two bottles of his stuff, piepared from roots and herbs, and I have never had a twinge of rheumatism since. The medicine was not prepared for sale at that time, but was manu factured bv Mr. llunnicutt for his friends. About six mouths ago .t was determined to place it upon the market, and a firm was organ l ized for that purpose. Two weeks ago, in the midst of my suffering, I noted in one of their advertisements that, it was good for kidney troubles also. I kmw it would cure rheuma tism, and I bought a half a dozen bottles at once and determined to give it a fair show at a kidney disease of longstanding. It may seem extrava gant, but the first day’s use gave me relief, and before I had completed taking one bottle my disagreeable symptons had entirely disap peared. I have used-two bottles up to this time, and I have not felt a trace of my disease fora week.” J. M. Hunnicutt & Cos., the manufacturers of Ilunnicutt’s Rheumatic Cuie, Atlanta, Ga., as sure us that their medicine is on sale at the low price of SI.OO a bottle, at all reputable druggists aud can lie procured at wholesale from jobbing druggists everywhere. The “Unterrified and Uudefiled” Democ racy Meet and Act—Badly. In our humble opin'on Bartow has witnessed her last mass meet lug. Tbe mass meeting is a thing of the past so far as Bartow is concerned. Things are mixed and it takes a light lively fellow citken to tell which one of the boys he is. The democracy of Bartow has met and acted—badly. The stalwarts and mugwumps a*e nestling together jo a downy bed of discord. There is a gen eral, all-wool, yard-wide split in the grand old party —a split that will take years to overcome. Each democrat knows who did the splitting. In every instance the ’tolher fellow did the work. It makes no difference who did it the work has been effectually done. Yesterday loomed forth in all giand eur, the prettiest day we have bad for some time. The town was quite active early in the morning, and delegations came pouring in up to the time of calling tifemj 'rreei.ng. At ten o'clock the Gordoni es l err Med at the opera house to ratify the election of Gen. Gordon, and at the roeec g several were made by on lo al politicians. It was evident to aU that Lie Gordonites were well organised and came 'o the meeting with tbe determination to contest every inch of ground for their favorite. At 11 o’clock Dr. Feltcn commenced speaking to a large crowd at the cor rt house, lie held forth up die fine of calling the m.;?s meet'ng at one o’clock. At that hour the court too n was one miss of jammed bum an by and chaos reigned supreme. The dec ion of chairman was the first tiling on docket and the Gordonites put up Col. R. 11. Jones for the place, while the F>a onifces put upMaj. A. F. Wool ley, of Kingston. No balloting could be bad in the court room and it was agreed that the crowd would adjourn to the court yard and allow tbe two factions he voted by each man pas mg through tbe rear gate of tbe yard, a count being taken by two gentlemen, filends of each candidate. In a vo 3 of about eight hundred the Bauonites elected tbe-r chairman by a vety small majority. The newly elected chairman Maj. Wool ley, then proceeded to call the meet'ng tooide*. After much hurrah and com motion it looked like the convention would soon get to woilv and allow the people to retu> n home, a great many of whom did leave the scene thoroughly disgusted. The first lesoluticn offered was one by Col. E. D. C -aham, which will he found below, along with the resolutions of the Baconites. Col. Graham’s resolution, it : s seen, reqe'ros the stand ng by of the nominat'en to he made in Atlanta on the 28tli. Mr. Warren Ak’n, on the part of the Baconites, offered a substitute, which is produced below. Bight here the split took place. The Gordonites, claiming the Bacon resolutions undemociatic, left the yard and repaired to the court room and proceeded to hold a conyent'on of their own. Here it was two conventions selecting two sets of delegates and cre ating discord generally. We have, to do both sides justice, concluded to publish the proceedings of each meeting as given us by the secretaries, thus leaving our readers to draw their own conclusions. THE GORTON ME! T NG. After the assembling of Gen. Go xlon’s friends in the court room, Col. 11. 11. Jones was made chairman, who rallel the meeting to order. Upon motion of Col. E. D. Graham, the following resolutions were unani mously carried: Whereas, this is a democratic meeting; therefoi-e be it Resolved, Ist., That we, the democrats of Bartow count,y, duly assembled, here by renew our allegiance to the demo cratic party of the State of Georgia and of the United Stales. Resolved- 2nd., That none but dem ocrats who wili be qualified to vote in this county for governor and member of congress at the elections in October and November nent shall participate in this meeting. Resolved Crd., That no one shall vote for any candidate for congress who will ~lot support the nominee of the congress oriel convention to assembly in Carters ville on the <Mh inst. Resolved, 4ih., That no one shall vote for any candidate for governor who will not support the nominees of the guoer na orial convention to assemble in Atlan ta on the 23th instant. Riesolved, 5., That a committee of five —one Gordon, one Bacon, one Fain and cne Clements man to be selected by the candidates or their friends, be appointed as tellei- or managers of the election whose duty it shall be to see that these res olutions are carried out and to declare the remit. Gordon delegates we’-e sel'ctc 1 by ac c’umalion. Upon a vole being taken it was found that Clements was the choice of the meeting. The following delegatee were selected to the state convention : Geo. El. Waring, If. T. Culpepper, E. B. Earle, L. S. lYluuford, P. C. YY r aldrup, Robert Haney, [.lngram G. W. Hendrix, John Adair, J. G. M. Montgomery, R. 11. Jones, YV. I. Bit le, E. D. Graham, Dr. J. S. Beas -1 -y, Col. Ilerny I). Capers, C. M. Join's, John YV. Akin. T. W. EE. Ha ris. from the county at large —Dr. Tdndsay John son, M j. Renfroe, Col. J. M. Vcaeh, R .bert Anderson, J. C. Tumlin, A. M. Willingham, Shelby Attaway, Joe M. Moon, C. M. Franks. TIIE BACON MEETING. \\ r e have not time to publish the entire proceedings of the meeting as furnished by its secretary, but will do so next week. Upon motion of Mr. Warren Akin the following resolutions were read and adopted unanimously: Be it Resolved, by the democracy of Burtow county in mass convention as sembled, Ist, That we declare our firm and un- — faltering devotion to the true and time honored principle? of Democracy. 2nd. That we hereby pledge ourselves to vote for any proper nomination fairly made. On motion, Hon. A. O'. Bacon, of Bibb ' was unanimously declared the choice of | the people of Bartow county for gover ! nor. Judge Fain by a large majority was | declared the choice of the meeting for ! congressman. The following delegates were selected to the gubernatorial convention : T. W. Akin, Thos. W. Miller, T. J. Lyori, i Lewis Caifies, W. A. Ciunn, Henry J. McCormick, J. A. B iker, J. B. Conyers. I Alternates —M. 11. Goode, Samuel ; Bams, T. C. Moore, R. YV. Satterfield, Douglas YVikle, Lee Bqrrough, J. G. Lowry, Creed Cunyus. j It will be seen from the foregoing that ■ enough delegates have been sent to elect both Bacon and Gordon, and enough to spare to raise a military company. They will all go to the State convention that is to assemble in Atlanta on the 2Sth. There the credentials of each delegation will be passed upon.- Some of them may be kept for active service and the balauee returned home, or both delegations may be thrown out of the convention entirely. Time will only tell the fate of Bartow’s gallant twin-delegation. It is the opin ion of everybody that Bartow has wit nessed her last political mass meeting. Outside of the discord around the court house no disturbance was had. Only one or two arrests were made during the whole day and they were for trivial of fences. Call of the County Executive Committee. The following named gentlemen, who compose the Executive Committee of the Democratic party of Bartow county, Ga., for the ensuing two years, are urgently requested to meet at the courthouse in Cartersville, at 12 m., on Thursday, 15th, ISB6. T ike the Macon Telegraph, we have deposed oir Gordon-Bacon table. The th'ng has got where it is not interesting and the space will hereafter be taken up in news matter. There is a strong petition to get Judge Fain to postpone court which he will in all probability do. It would be a g r e?t piry to take the farmers out of a crop that has so badly needed work. Miss Ida M. Moss, a beautiful and ac complished young lady of Gainesville, atter spending several weeks with the Misses Shockley, returned home Satur day. Some of the boys look sad and are feeling around lor their hearts. We sympathise with our young friends Messrs. Thomas and Johnnie. Head in the sid loss of a sister. Let all who can be pres ent and give this matter the attention its importance requires. The chairman of the cemetery commit tee requests all parties due the city eenu etery for burial lots, digging graves, etc., to come up and pay the same at once.
