here as soon as the business of the
firm at the other points can he ar

Prof. John Roach Stratton deliv
ered one of his interesting lectures,
“Day Dreams,” at the Opera House
in this city Wednesday night for the
benefit of the local Military Com
pany. While the attendance was
not large yet those present were
highly pleased. Prof. Stralon, while
coinpartively a young mar, h. s won
distinction as an orator and has lec
tured to large audiences l.t the prin
cipal cities of the South. He is log
ical, clear, poetic and holds his au
diences at a high pitch of interest.
A goodly number of our citizens
congregated iu front of Hicks Drug
Store yesterday morning to witness
the burning of the Dr’s, books as per
his provio is aunounoement. Before
applying the torch, the Dr, saturat
ed the books with oil and placed
them on a barrel!, while in full view
gf the spectators was desplaved this
sign: “Long as the lamp holds out
to burn, the vilest sinner may
turn.” The Dr. announces that he is
done with the credit business aud
that no goods will hereafter be
charged.
