Mr. D. M- Laing died at Ms homo
bear Fowltown, on last Wednesday,
and was bnrisd with masonio honors
at Qreenshade cemetery the follow
ing day., Mr, Laing was one of the
oldest oiticens of Decatur county and
through' a long and useful life, en
joyed the esteem and respect of
everybody. For manv years he had
been a faithful and oousistent mem
ber of the Methodist church.

On last Tuesday night an election
was held in the Armory hall of the
Bainbrldge Independents to fill the
vacancies paused by the resignation
of First Deutenant C, C. Pittmap and
the death of Lieutenant W. W. Pal
mer. The election resulted in the
choice of R. W. Fleming as first
lieutenant and*Mr. E. A. Wimbcrley
as seoond lieutenant. Both of these
young gentlemen are worthy of the
honor bestowed upon them by their
eomrades and will no doubt fill these
offices with credit to their company,

Mr. Rufus R. Sparkman, a yonng
man employed for some months past
with the Bain bridge Cooperage Co.,
<Jied at the boarding house of Mrs.
Thompson in this oity, last Wednes
day morning at three -o’clook, and
his remains were buried in the city
cemetery the following afternoon.
Rev. W. L. Richards, pastor of the
Baptist church, conducted the Wmal
rites. He had been stricken with
pneumonia only a few days previ
ously. His home was in Starke, Fla.,
where,he has relatives. His friends
here gave him all the attention
needed during bis illness and pro
vided him with the'best medioal at-
tentention that oould be procured. A
large number of our citizens attended
his burial.
