They have the largest and haudsomest stock of goods in town. They keep what the people want and treat their customers right. Mr. Homer Calhoun, our clever and highly esteemed depot agent, who has been taking a short recess, is again at his post of duty, and is as handsome and accommodating as ever. If did you good. We are sorry to learn Mr. Walls is about to lose tbe postoffice. There are several applicants tor the position, among whom Mr. W. B. Calhoun, our former postmaster. Judging the future by the past, Mr. Calhoun would give en tire satisfaction. We sincerely hope he may lie the successful one. Dr. Mallard and wife, of New Orleans, were guests of Mrs. S. L. Wright Satur day Dr. Mallard is editor of the South Western Presbyterian. He is a very talented gentleman. OLIVER TWIST. March 20, 11(01. Mr. K. A. ;li. Maxwell made a business ] trip to Thnitiaaville Tuesday, returning the following day. Mr. J. Parrott came over from Bain- bridge Sunday evening -and spent Mon day here with his family, Mr. J. J. Spooner, a leading oilmen of Rock Pond district, was here a short while Sunday evening last. Miss Leila Sims complimented her many friends with a delightful enter tainment last Monday night. I he occa sion being her birthday anniversary. Mr. Homer Brinson, who has been at tending the Atlanta Medical College for two terms past, returned fast Friday night to his home at this place. He will spend vacation at home. There will he anEpworth League rally at the Methodist church tomorrow and Sunday. Rev. W. F. Smith, of Bain bridge, will preach tomorrow at eleven o’clock and on Sunday. Eeveryone in vited to attend these services. On Saturday morning last, about 8 o’clock, Dr. Bridges lost his residence by fire. Scarcely anything was saved and it was by hard labor that several near by houses were kept from burning. The fire is supposed to have originated from a defective chimney. The building was partially insured, hut the furnishings were an entire loss. March 22, 1901, MISS FROM BRANCH INSTITUTE. We deem it necessary to eliarge the name of our flourishing little school, now under the skillful management of Prof. S. T. MoTyre, from the old name wliieh is generally known, to the name at tbe head of this writiug. Our good patrons Rave been so kind as to build us a nice, new house and change everything in the settlement this year to such a great extent, such as the improvement of the literary school, the Sabbath school, digging stumps, etc. that we feel like we ought to give our new house a new name and not have •id things and uew things mixed to aether. Colonel Baker says lie is going to make ten baies of cotton this year on ten acres of laud. Col. Sammons wife has just returned from a pleasant visit to parents iu Emanuel county. Wo are having some beautiful weather now and our farmers are hustling to get 1 their corn planted. FROM NICHOLASYILLE. Mr. Charles Kelley went to Colquitt Sunday. Messrs. Willie Carter and Willie Frauklin visited Eldorendo Sunday. Mrs. George Grimes and Mrs. King visited Mrs. Adam Brinson Monday. The favniers are preparing to plant corn, as the beuutiful spring days have come. Mrs. K. Powell aud daughter, Mrs Scott, visited Mr. and Mrs. Adam Brin son Sunday. Mr. Jack Franklin ar.d family visited his parents, Mr. ahd Mrs. S.imuei Frank lm last Sunday. Miss Lucy Nora Donalson and Mrs Leroy Kimbrel attended preaching at Bellview Sunday. There must have been a great attrac tion at Mr. Jeff Grimes’ Sunday. A big ul’owil of young men were there.
