Judge J. M. Griggs of Dawson, our
estermed representative in congress,
was a pleasant visitor here th» week.
Judge Griggs has made an abiorepresen-
tative for the Second District and con
sequently deserves the popularity which
he envoys throughout his district.

Col. Jeff D, Talbert has been in Bain
bridge this week attending court a* a
witness.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Y. Brir.son and little
daughter, Eva, visited relatives at Dm-
alsonville last Suuday.
Messrs. C. B. Hodges and W. H. Browa
have been attending court in Bainbridge
this week, being on the jury
Kev. E G. Piper willl preach at the
Methodist church next Suuday and it is
hoped that a good crowd will be out.
Mr. Greene, the photographer has been
making arrangements to leave this place
having worked it up very well
known where he will locate.
The Stuart Lumber Company have re
cently purchased the lands and tramway
of Mr. T. C. Wainman aud will here
after haul their own logs. Mr. R. A. L.
Maxwell has also sold out his interest to
them,
The Ice Cream Supper given by the
public school at the school house last Fri
dav eve, the 10th, was a success. The
neat sum of $40.00 was realized which
amount will be expended in the purchase
of desks for the school.
Mr. S. J. Warren has begun the erec x
tionof his new commissary building over
whioh the K. of P. hall will be located.
The promoters of the move to establish
this lodge hope t<> have it organized and
get up about the fifteenth of June.

FROM THE SIXTEENTH.
A good number of our citizens have
been attending Superior court in Bain
bridge this week.
From all accounts, Messers Will Har
rell and Byron Salter had better spur
up or they may get left.
The crops in this neighborhood are
quite small for the season of the year.
The late Spring is responsible however
for the condition.
Mr. Butler our brag trunk gardener
has the finest oiope we have seen. He
is alao a good farmer aud never gets be
hind with his crops.
Our public school under the success
ful management ot Prof. A. S. Powell Is
doing well, and we are well pleased. Mr.
Powell will probably teach for us the
next term of our school.

An Ordinance, •
Entitled an Ordinance to Prevent
the Blocking up of Streets in i
the City of Bainbridge by Lo
comotives and Cars ok Lomotives
or CARS, AT Points Where Such
Streets Abe Crossed by IUil-
ivays in Said City.
Section 1. Be it ordained by the
Mayor aud Aldermen of the Corporation
of the City of Bainbridge. in oouncil as
sembled, that from and after th * passage
of this ordinance it shall be uulawful for
any person or persons having charge or
control of any locomotive and cars, or
locomotives or cars, to block up any of
the streets in said City, or to allow their
locomotive or cars to remain standing in
any of the streets of said City for more
than five minutes at a time.
SEC. 2. Be it further ordained that
all trains entering or departing from any
of the depots in said City shall bo kept
moving at a rate of speed not to exceed
ten miles per hour, except a»is provided
in section 1. of this article.
Sec. 3. Be it further ordained that
nothing herein contained shall apply to
the locomotive or cars or trains of any
railway Company, while they are not on
any or the streets of said City.
Sec. 4. Be it further ordained, that
if any person or persons in charge of a
locomotive and care or locomotive ^ or
cars, blockade the streets of said City
or any of them for a period of time ex-
ceeeding five minutes, such person or
persons shall upon conviction be pun
ished by imprisonment or fine, or both
in the discretion of the Mayor as is pre
scribed by section 260 of the city Code.
Sec. 5. Be it further ordained that
ail ordinances and parts of ordinances in
conflict with this Ordinance be and the
sAme are hereby repealed. Passed in
Council and approved this May 6. 1901.

An Ordinance.
Be it ordained by the Mayor and aider-
men of the city of Bainbridge in council
assembled:
Section 1. That section 288 of the
Code of City Ordinances be amended by
adding after the word ’‘arrows” a^d be
fore the words “any violation” on the
fourth line of of said section, the words
any air gun, spring gun or other gun
shooting shot, balls, bullets, rocks or
other missile, so that section so amend
ed shall read:
S -O. 2. It shall be unlawful for any
person to use within the corporate limits
of the city, any sling shut or what is
known as Alabama 6ling for shooting
shot, rocks or arrows, any air gun, spring
gun or other gun shooting shot, balls,
bullets, rocks or other missiles. Any
dotation of this section shall on convic
tion be poulshed as prescribed in section
260 of this Code. t
Sec. 3. Be it further ordained that
all ordinances aud.parts of ordinances in
conflict, with this Ordinance be and the
same are hereby repealed. Passed and
approved in open Council, this 20th. day

Whereas the petition of C. B. McNair
J. B. Butler. J. D. McNair et al., has
been duly tiled with this Board, petition
for the establishment of a certain road
described as follows: Commencing at the
seyeuteen mile post on the attapulgus
and Calvary public road and running in
northeast direction to or at the resi
dence of S. D. Jones, and thence in a
northerly direction until it crosses Little
Swamp Creek aud thence in a northeast
direction bn til it intersecis the public-
road at Big Swamp Creek. Said road
road will be about 24 miles in length aud
will pass oyer the lands of McNair estate
J. B. Butler. Wright Bros.. Jennie
Kelly. S. D. Jones, Wright McNair, J.
D. McNair, W. O. Jones, B. R. G. Har-
rison, B. O. Harrison and W, E. Byrd.
And whereas, the said petition has been
duly referred to the Road Commission
ers of Bell’s district and thev have made
their report to this Board that said con
templated road will be of public utility,
and marked out same according to law.
This is to cite and admonish all persons
that if no good cause be shown to the
contrary before this Board on the first
Mouday in June 1901. and order will be
granted opening up and establishing said
road as a public road in said county.
