DEATH or AMOC c. SOBERS.
A pall of gloom fell upon this
community when the laot was an
nounced that Mr. Amos C. Sobers
had died suddenly at an early hour
last Thursday morning. His illness
was brief aud his death was caused
from congestion. All that medical
aid and loving hands aud hearts
could accomplish was done to no
ayail—the young man’s spirit re
turned to the God Who gaye it.
This sad death was not only a ter
rible shock to the family of the
deceased but to tbe entire city iu
which he had lived his short life.
Amos Hubers was nearly twenty-
five years old; a most popular young
man, kindly disposed, courteous to
everybody, big-hearted, generous aud
unselfish, hence a general favorite.
He was bright, talented, companion
able and always true to liis convic
tions, as well as devoted to his
friends. Having had iTjry advan
tage to fit him for bis avocation in
life, and just starting out with a suc
cessful career before him, it is a
great sorrow to bis family and
friends that be should have beeu cut
down by the grim Reaper just in tbe
bloom of his youthful manhood.
Faults he doubtless had, and who
is there, geutle reader, who does not
have a bountiful supply of them?
When we all stand before Iieaveu’s
merciful Judge, uncovered in His
gracious presence, we will be aston
ished to discover how very much
alike we all are. Let us, then, throw
the mantle of charity and love over
our errlug fellow-travelers, as we all
march along the “load to dusty
Death,” as we hope for it ourselves.
“God is love” and “His tnerey en-
dureth forever,” are words of Holy
Writ; and the greatest thing m all
the world is charity—Love!
The subject of this notice was the
son of Gapt. W. C. Sobers, one of
oar oldest and most respected citi
zens, who is now lying upon a bed
of siokness. To this broken hearted
man and family we tender our deep
est sympathy, aud we trust that God
may give them strength to bear this
heavy cross.
Tbe funeral procession, notwith
standing the inclement weather, was
one of tiie largest ever seen in Bain
bridge. The ball-Learers were young
friends ol the deceased, and the ser
vice at the grave was performed by
Rev. W. L. Richards, pastor of the
Baptist church, who was the young
man’s friend.
