Without half trying Georgia shows near a twenty-million increase in the valuation oi her taxable property. There’s but one, and tnat is Georgia. Judging from the slim attendance at the state agricultural convention held at Thomasville, there are others liesides legislators who like tree passes. The Wayurosa Journal is by long odds the moat artistic weekly news paper that cornea to this office. The Journal is progressive, out-spoken and stroug. Pope Brown hasn’t yet shot from taw, hut his fneuds urge that the other fellows will have to ‘steady hand and atiff knee’ mightily if they heat him at the game. Our prospective legislative candi dates wtll have to start out at this early date with a well tilled barrell if they expect to stay in the polities! arena until the fall of next year. This is the only solution of the Negro iu in politics and always guarantees the selection of more competent officials from governor down. This might be taken as a gentle reminder to the wary politicians who are beginning to bob serenely up over the state. There are a few negroes in every communifv who are perhaps from a moral standpoint worthy of a vote and at the general elections they have i this opportunity. At the last election in this county about 60 negroes voted out of a registration of several thous and, and this probably covers the number who really vote for the good of the country and who are capable of making an intelligent choice. We are no enemy to the negro either in politios or elsewhere, and when we stand up for a white prirna ry we are not doing him any injustice in the world. In our opinion, aud in the opinion of the most reasonable members of his race, the less the ne gro dabbles in politics and elections the better is his condition, for iu the first place he is not suffiieutly stroug to arbitrarily obtain anything by bis vote. In the second place by his for cible entry into politics he either be comes a tool tor scheming politicians or else mourn the disfavor of the whites, who arq.at all tunes and un der all circumstances in command of the political situation. The question has at last simmered down to the point where intelligence demands either that the negro oonlept himself with voting in the geoeral elections or else lose his franchise entirely, j The survival of the white primary Grenada DRUG COMPANY “AVC 1 ORPORA TED."
