THE SUBSIDY QRAB BASSES SENATE.!
The senate passed the ship subsidy
bill yesterday afternoon. ‘ The vote
was42to31. Senators Allison aud
Doliyer, of Iowa, Spooner and
Quarles, ot Wisconsin, and Proctor
and Dillingham, of Vermont, repub
licans, voted against final passage of
tbe bill, and Senator MoLaunn, of
South Carolina, voted for it.
There was a flood of amendments
offered before final vote on tbe meas
ure was taken, but only such as were
agreeable to those in charge of the
measure were adopted. The bill
now goes to tbe bonse, and the re
publicans leaders will of oourse whip
it through with all possible dispatob.
Then the affixing of she signature of
the chief executive will complete the
saddling on the American people of
one of tbe most iniquitous measures
ever placed on our etatute books.
The republicans refused to sdopt
an amendment offered by Senator
Pettus providing that the total ex
penditures under the bill should not
exceed $9,000,000 in soy one year.
No limit Is to be plaoed on the sub-

Glad Easier time is coming,
We may fairly hear the bumming,
Of the bees, the buds aud blossoms on
the way;
Each moment swiftly flying,
Comes gentle zephyrs sighing,
And whisper tender messages of May.
Tbe meadow lark is singing.
And the daisies are a-springing,
Where once the chilling snows of winte
fell;
The sun is gladly shining,
And tfie honeysuckle twining,
Is a-snedding of its fragrance throne!
the dell.
The cows will soon go lowing,
To where the grasses growing,
▲re speaking to them weloome every
day; ,
And there will they be nipping,
While mocking birds are tripping,
And shadows with the sunbeams are at
play.
Boon we’ll be lost to sorrow,
In hopingt of the morrow.
With not a wail of anguiab or of pain;
Each soul ite own self chiding,
8hall trust to nature's guming,
White 8prlng, the queen of beauty, holds
the rein.
