W c have collect,id from Convicts
for amount <>t’ worx to January 1903
$5485.45. We have re-leased the
male and able bodied Convicts for
year 1903 for the net sum of $13. 5,
being 75 cents per month more than
last year. Amount collected from
delinquent tax pavers the sum of
$32.23, this being from old fi. fas.
placed in our hands by Tax Colleo
tor of county. In this matter we
expect to make a good showing in
our next report not yet having had
time enongn to get acquainted with
the status of returned fi. fas. On
this subject we respectfully call your
attention to the slip-shod, careless
way of returning fi. fas. by Consta
bles throughout the county. Mark
ing some as follows: “He’s dead,”
meaning no doubt party had died.
“Gone fioin county.” meaning party
was a non-resident: “Run-a-way,”
meaning party had run away. When
the law says they must return a
Nollie bona, no property to be found.
Another entry worthy of your atten
tion on said fi. fas.: “No tech man
in deestrict.” This should be care
fully considered by your body and a
recommendation that the Tux Asses
sor be required to give post office
address of each tax payer entered on
bis books, for we feel fully assured
did the officers know • the residence
ot tax delinquents much more could
be collected, at present tax digest
lias no column for pot t office of tax
payers. Hence if any error or dis
crepancy arises have no certain way
of communicating with said taxpay
er, we therefore ask that your hon
orable body recommend said column
be inserted in Tax Digest.
We also beg leave to report that
Jai’, l’oor Hou-e and Bridges are all
in ai good condition as appropria
tions will warrant and that ive have
tried to administer the finances of
this county economically to tho best
of our ability.
Trusting this our report will meet
with your favorable consideration.
We are your respectfully,
