The Dispensary bill is dead in

Harris and Whitfield counties

It is feared that the Supreme

the law recently passed with regard
to a separate car service for the

We understand that the great
majority of farmers will cease to
put their syrup in bottles. While
this is a calamity to the consumer
it most assuredly speaks in an un
mistakable manner of the profit
there must be in the cane syrup
industry, for the bottled syrup can
always be sold for sixty cents per
dozen and as the farmers have
ceas.-d to make it at this price
they have evidently found it more
profitable to sell it otherwise.
The statement made by Thos.
K. Watson, the Author of the
"Story of France" and “Napoleon"
that he intends to write a history
of the United States which will be
a true exposition of the South,s
share in the building of the na
tion, will be heralded with general
satisfaction, Mr. Watson has
shown in both of his recent works
that he is a truly philosophical
writer, and is at the same time a
most entertaining essayist.
flow many people in the United
States know or care to know that
the once all admired and adored
George Dewey is at Sea again.
In this country the oid childish
question of “which you prefer to
be a dead hero or a live coward”,
should be remodeled and made to
be a decision between a dead hero
and a live hero. So fyr as public
opinion and regard goes, we would
prefer to be one dead hero than
three live ones.
It is claimed that the president
is really in favor ot the Lily White
movement in the south but that
his managers have told him thut
in order to gain the negro votes in
the northern states, he must frown
down upon such a policy. And
so his recent actions in South
Carolina and Alabama are ex
plained. Verily, Verily, it is
harder for a politician to be an
honest man than it is for a camel
to go through the ej e bt a nee
dle.

The Baltimore American says:
“Carrie Nation is bound, sooner
or later, to meet some one who
has as great and as strenuous a
dislike for nuisances as she her
self has for smoking drinking and
social gayety, and then many a
score against her will be paid up
in full. The tolerance with which
her attacks on individuals have
been treated have emboldened her
to pursue a course whose extent
speaks well for the gallantry and
patience of the community.’
“It is a little difficult to under
stand why it would be desirable to
change the time of the meeting of
the Genera) Assembly from Octo
ber to June. It does not seem
that such a change would be in the
interest of the farmers, who will
continue to be considerably repre
sented in the membership of that
body. It was said last June, with
excellent reason, that the tanners
generally could not spare a day
from their farms just at that time
to go to the polls (or the primary
election. If that were true is it
reasonable te suppose that the
farmers elected to the Legislature
could afford to take fifty {lays off
lrom their farms, beginning the
fourth Wed eaJiy in June, and
spend the tiu.c ,n Atlanta?—Morn

And we echo also, where is the
advantage?
