It is now stated that Henry
Frick is to establish a college in
Pittsburg large enough to over
shadow that instituted by his old
time enemy, Andrew Carnegie.
In addition to the donation of the
buildings equipments and grounds
he set aside an endowment of 2.-
500,000 for the support of the in
stitution. Mr. Frick is a great
freak but it cannot be claimed that
he has misplaced his generosity in
this instance.

The general appropriation bill is
completed.
A riot occurs in Havana between
strikers and the police and one
hundred men are shot and tvyo
strikers are killed.
A school girl in Chicago bravely
plays a march for the children to
move out of the school building
while the smoke surges in from
the basement almost enveloping
her. By means of the music a
panic was averted.

Uncle Mark Hanna, after two

The state of Vermont aft er try
ing the prohibition measure for
fifteen years has recently passed a
j law advocating local option. The
state officials, it seems, have tried
faithfully to enforce the prohibi
tion measure but have found it
impossible to do so with anything
like fairness or economy. After
all, the liquor traffic will never die
until the men who are addicted to
the habit make a mental resolve
not to give way to an animal cra
ving, and it would appear that
where total .prohibition has been
tried it only leads to the breaking
of more laws and does not hinder
those who drink from illicit man
ufacturing concerns or from Blind
Tigers. Let us begin work on the
individual and endeavor to mauo
inhibition the mental law.
