Ed Raney’s Dawson News has
let out another tuck, increasing its
size by fpur pages. The News is
one of the best edited weekly pa
pers in the state, and is operated
by one of the cleverest Newspaper
men to be found in Georgia. News
paper editing and bullbat - protect
ing are a couple of specialties with
Mr. Raney.
sed Press cannot be enjoined from
publishing any item of news, even
though tinged with incindiarism
and anarchism; and it is certain that
the amcrican newspaper will never
submit to an abridgment of its
recognized rights. On the contra
ry it may be exepeted to meet the
demands of the reading public,
even to the verstepping of the
limits of its recognized province.
It therefore presents a condition
which cannot easily be met. So
long as public ears itch for the
descriptive detail of murder, sui
cide, and woe, so long will their
demands be respected by the
progressive newspaper correspond
ent. It all therefore hinges on
the pretered tastes of those who
read, and consequently brings up
the old time-worn question as to
whether mankind is growing' bet
ter, or worse; and which we do not
at this time care to discuss.
It might be argued that an ex
hibit of Georgia at the St. Louis
exposition would do no harm, l-ut
we are not just sure of this If
the state should attempt to ex
hibit on a small scale we would be
apt to be misjudged by the rest of
the country, and would justly feel
ashamed of our puny endeavor.
The amount so far suggested for
an exhibit at the exposition would
hardly be a drop in the bucket in
comparison to the amount that
would be actually necessary. 1 he
friends of the project realize this
and have no doubt put forth this
small appropriation suggestion as

It seems that the burlesque art
