ad in today’s paper calling attention
to their bottling works, which have
been enlarged and made to meet
every demand. They bottle all
kinds of soda waters, beverages, etc.
The County Commissioners held a
short aesBion Monday evening and
spent Tuesday visiting the convict
oamps in the county. We under*
stand that the oamps were all found
kept in a highly satisfactory man
ner.
Mrs. Agnes D. Graves and Mr.
Earnest Graves left this week for
Montgomery, Ala , where Mr, Graves
will have an operation performed
for a nasal trouble. We trust that
the operation will be entirely satis-
factory and successful.
The Blaum Jewelry Cr. have be
gun their business career m Bain
bridge by placing their ad in The
Search Light, and we belive that
they have made no bad inyestment.
They propose to advertise legiti
mately and consistently, and in re
turn we trust that our readers will
give them a.liberal patronage.
Wiley Galloway has resigned his
position with L. C. Toole and has
again taken up the grip. He will
be on the road for a le iding vinegar
house of the country. Wiley resents
the idea however that he has soured
on Bainbridge. His position has
been filled by Mr. Percy Mathis,
formerly with the Mart Clothing
Company.
The Queen City, which is the most
popular boat on the river has been
placed on the Ways at Apalachioola
Florida, for repairs. The “M. W,
Kelly” has taken her run for the
time she is off the river. The “Kel
ly” is by far the handsomest boat on
the river and is officered by one of
the very cleverest ofews that touch
at Bainbridge.
Chief of Polioe, E. H. Smart, re*
quests us to state to the citizens of
the town that the place for free dis
tribution of disinfectants has been
removed to bis office in the rear of
the police headquarters on Market
street. Those desiring same will
call on Tuesdays and Fridays from
3 o’clock till 5 id the evenings.
There was a lively senmmago in
front of the postoffice Tuesday morn
ing, in which Mr, C. A. Helton and
a book agent figured. According to.
best reports the said bjok agent had i
insulted Mrs. Helton, and upon first j
sight Mr. Helton proceeded to applv
the horsewhip with telling effect.
Parlies interfered and put a stop to
the fight else it might have ended
more seriously. A oase was made
against the agent, but Mr. Helton j
has uot yet oeen molested as the'
general verdict is that he was en-j
tirely justifiable in the assault.
Reotor A. 3. Hill, « ho has been
in charge of the Episcopal church
of this citv, left Wednesday tor
If ayetie ville, Tenn., where he assumes
the rectorship of the Episcopal
churoh there. Mr. Hill since com*
ing to Bainbridge has male many
friends, and was prominently men
tioned for the Chaplainuy of the
Fourth Georgia Regiment and would
have reoeived the appointment in
oase the former Uhaplatn had re*
signed, whiob was expected at one
time. His femily will leave later
end join him at that point after all
arrangements neoesaary have been
made, We regret to note Mr. Hill'a
departure from Bainbridge.
Hon. 0. U, Bus*', of Colquitt, wee
in the oity Tueaday end brought the
news of the result of the bond elec
tion in that oounty for e new court
bouse. Miller oounty needs a court
house badly but for some reason the
voters did not turn out in sufficient
numbers to carry the required vote
for bonds. We understand from
Col. Bush that just as soon as they
can do so they will reuew the fight
for the new structure and that he
thinks that if the people have their
attention called to the election and
turn out, there will be no doubt
about their having the building.
The question of early evening
olosing will soon be up to our mer
chants again, and we hope that they
will break the record for once and
unanimously agree to close doors at
a reasonably early hour in order that
their clerks may have the evening
hours for rest and refreshment. The
long hot summer days are severe on
those who look across tne counters
and they are entitled to this eonsid
eration. Thumaaville and other
towns have already adopted early
closing hours for the season.
