Reports from many sections of
the county are to the effect that the
enraids of the caterpillar are work
ing fearful havoc with the cottpn
crop; or that suoh is anticipated
from their present appearance. In
those seotions where the cotton is
yet very young and not fruited, it is
probable the result will be far more
serious.
Judge W. N. Spenoe at ohambers
in Camilla Monday refused to grant
a new trial in the damage oase of J.
8. Guilford vs. the Alabama Mid-
land Railway oompany, for damages
received m a wreck several years
ago during whiohtime he has been
running on the road. The will
be remembered as the oompanion oase
of the Martin Blackburn. suit in
whioh the plaintiff was awarded
$10,000 damages. Guilford is rep
resented by Cols. Toomer of Way-
cross aud W. M. Harrell, of this

Bainbridge has not been playing
professional ball this year, bat she
has been putting up an exhibition of
ball that would look well on the
professional diamond just the same.
It is a matter of general regret that
Bainbridge did not get regularly
in the game this year, as all things
ipointed to a successful season. The
low liyery rates from the court
house square and return have added
greatly to the attendance at the
games.
We would be glad to learn just
what disposition has been made of
the old oourt house, after the yaoa-
tion of the offices therein after the
completion of the new building. We
understand that there is a movement
on foot to seoure its use to the local
military. The present court room
would oertainly make a splendid
armory and we hope that this dispo
sition will be made if the commis
sioners fail to dispose of it to better
advantage.
A few of the friends of Dr. and
Mrs. Lynton Baggs met at their hos

Lois Iinssell, Lonise Bruton, Hinson,
an! Helen Fieler; Messrs. Ralph
Graves, Mercer Baggs, J. W. Ware,
Laurel and Herbert Tonge, Joe Bru
ton and Mr. MoKnhn.
The Search Light has to acknowl
edge the mauy courtesies and kind
nesses shown the paper daring the
absence of the editor at the session
of the legislature, deoeased. We
feel that our readers have little
cause to complain, since the “head
devil” has been making “typelets”
fly during our absence. We shall
now direot our attention to improvs
ing the paper daring the fall.
H. J. Bruton’s new store is the
handsomest store in town without
doubt; and it is the purpose of Mr.
Bruton to make it a veritable meooa
for bargain hunters this fall. Con
tractor Burney has reoeived many
compliments on the appearance of
his work. Mr. Bruton will conduot
the bosines of his new store and Mr.
Lytle remain in the old building on
the corner.
