Ohio Tom Johnson’s batting
average is said to stand close up
to the 500 mark.
The fellow who wrote: “In the
Good Old Summer Time,” evi
dently had no acquaintance with
the weather we have been having
in Georgia this year.
It has been rumored that Hon.
G. Y. Tignor, the able representa
tive of Muscogee county, will op
pose Judge W. B. Butt for re-elec
tion as judge of the Chattahoochee
circuit. Mr. Tignor is popular in
his section of the state and should
he enter the race, he would prove
a factor to be considered.
Lou Dillon the famous race
mare who recently established a
world’s record by trotting a mile
in two minutes flat, is to be raced
against her own record, and it is
is thought that with all things fa
vorable she will be able to cover
the mile in one minute and 59
seconds which is the pacing record
of the world.
Distilled Spirits of Tur
pentine.
Major B. K. Havens, who has
been promoting the Bainbridge
Turpentine and Pine Product Co.
in its organization, was exhibiting
samples of the turpentine derived
from the distillation process this
week, and from all appearances
there was absolutely no difference
in the material from the ordinary
turpentine except a trifling differ-
in the odot. Really we see no
reason why turpentine d rived in
this way should not be equally as
good as that derived in the old
way.
The old process whereby the
seasons were depended on to bring
forth results is to be supplanted
by the modern method of proceed
ing through rain and shine, sum
mer and winter Both articles of
turpentine are secured from the
same source, the only difference
being the method of securing
them. We steadfastly believe
that the dav is coming soon v hen
the new method will generally be
employed for the reason that with
it operators may busy themselves
throughout the entire year.
Death Near Whigham.
A Great Revival.
Mr. Editor:
Will you grant us space in the
columns of your esteemed paper
in which to give an account of a
great meeting in the Methodist
church at Climax. The meetin?
was begun at prayer meeting on
Wednesday evening before the
3rd Sunday in August. On the
following Saturday morning Rev.
J. L. Morrell, the noted evangel
ist, of Hawkinsville, joined us.
This is the second meeting in
which brother Morrell has been
with us in Climax.
We thought that the meeting
last year was a grand success, but
if anything the one recently held
was more powerful. From thre be
ginning to the close of his labors
here the prese nee and power of
the Holy Spirit was manifest, and
he shunned not to declare the whole
counsel of God. He sends the
shafts of tiuth to the hilt in the
hearts of sinners and offers the
"Balm of Gilead” tojthe contrite
and broken-hearted.
As some of the visible results of
the two meetings held with us,
forty-six have been added to the
church, and a church building has
been erected in Climax that would
do credit to any country commu
nity. And best of all, the church
here is in as fine spiritual condi
tion as any church with which I
am acquainted. On the last day
of the meeting one of the brethren
arose and made the following pre
amble and resolutions which were
adopted by the church by a rising
vote:
Whereas, In the providence of
God we have been assembled in
the worship of our Lord and Sav
ior Jesus Christ for the past
twelve days, and that we feel that
our moral and spiritual condition
has been improved, and
Whereas, Our brother in Christ,
Rev. J. L. Morrell, has labored,
preached and taught the Gospel of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
without fear or favor and preached
to us a full and comp’ete salvation
to all that believe, giving God all
the glory, Therefore be it
Resolved, That we send our
brother on his way to other fields
of labor for the Master with our
united prayers for victory over the
world, the flesh and the devil and
Be it further
Resolved, That we jvilh one ac
cord invite our brotnerand fellow-
laborer to come to us agai^ next
year full 01 the Holy Spirit, teach
ing the truth as it is written, al
ways giving God all the glory.
Sincerely,
E. L. Padkick.
