Mr. W. S. Penny returned Tues-
day from Atlanta where ho was
called last week by the illness of his
wife. Mrs. Penny we are pleased to

A letter received last week in this
city by Mr. Thomas O’Brien from
Capt. Fred Doebel who sailed tor
England about 30 days ago says:
This is beastly weather, and
awfully gloomy; nevertheless I feel
like a warrior, I am now in Liv
erpool; will go down to London
after the Lancashire races. Tell
the boys that Doebel is alright in
England.”
Invitations have been received m
this oity to the marriage of Miss Ila
MoDavid to Mr. John J. Flowers of
Jakm. The wedding will ooour at
the home of the bride in Dothan on
November 24tb. The affair will be
of interest to many as the contract
ing parties are well known here.
Miss MoDavid has frequently been
the guest of the Misses Hirings and
has many warm admirers; while Mr,
Flowers has a number of relatives
and friends in this city. Miss Laura
BiviDgs will be one of the atten
dants.
Mr. A. S. Lurman who has lor fif
teen years spent the winter in Bain
bridge, hunting in the vioinity and
enjoying our mild seasons, has again
returned and is quartered at the
Wainman. He has his usual num
ber of excellent dogs. The Wain
man has recently arranged a large
number of new kennels whiob will
be open during the hunting season
to the hunters who are expected
through the winter,
We note the presence of Captain
Richard Hobbs, of Albany, among
the visiting attorneys at this term of
the superior court. Although an
octogenarian Capt. Hobbs, looks in
perfect health. Long may this grand
old Democrat live and prosper. To
no man in Georgia was the party so
indebted for the landslide to Cleve
land and good government in 1892 ;
and may he contribute as largely in
“turning the rascals out” in 1904.
