How Does Tikis Strike You ?
Here are a few items from an
amusing list that appealed in the
New York Sun under the caption
‘'Necrology of 1903 ”
•“Last survivor of Waterloo—
nine
l.ast woman who as flower gins
were* kissed by Lafayette—thir
teen.
Last man who saw Napoleon—
two.
Last man who shot John Wilkes
Hooth —six.
Last Balaclava man—-three.
There has been a noticeable fall
ing off of the man who knew Lin
coln before he became president.
The original McKinley has not
died so often during the year as
formerly. ’
The last man who voted for An
drew Jackson has died once this
year.
All the original Roosevelt men
are still living.”
Although vanity is a trait usual
]y attributed to women, the absvc
list goes to prove that occasional
ly man desires a little notoriety.
The fact that Gorman failed to
secure the appointment he so
much desired on the finance com
mittee is regarded 1 y some as a
serious blow to his chances for
presidential nomination, Fred 1.
Dubois, one of the democratic ap
pointees is a free silverite and it is
said that the Bryan contingent are
crowing over their so-called vic
tory over Gorman. There must
be less partisan and greater party
spirit, if democracy is to win in
the next campaign.
Charles H. Deitrich U. S. sen
ator from Nebraska has been in
dicted on a charge of brib.-iy. He
is aceused of accepting $1,300 as a
bribe to^ecommend Jacob fisher
for the postmastership at hastings
Neb. This is the first case in the
history of the U. S. that a senator
has been indicated on such
charge and consequently theoffair
is creating a stir in official circles
