School District No. 1392.
The above is a growing and flour
ishing country school in Decatur
county, about twelve miles south of
Bainbridge. The present term com
menced October I9tb, and has grown
rapidly to an enrollment of twenty*
seven pupils. The average daily at
tendance has been good so tar. This
speaks well for our neighborhood
and shows that the people of this
community are awake to the cause
of education, and know and appreci*
ate its worth. This school is fur
nished with a nice and comfortable
building, and is well supplied with
first class and up to.date text books.
The scholars are advancing rapidly
in their books and show marked im
provement in their studies.
Livingstone Spooner, a boy tbir
teen years of age, after reciting
Geography and other lessons during
the day solved one hundred and
fifty-four examples ■ James Ward
and also Willie Littlefield deserve
credit for rapid progress in their
studies. L. and George Priest are
making rapid progress also in their
studies, and are two of the best be
haved boys in our school. Mellie
May Lambert is a little girl eight
years old, and is the best speller in
her class.

A special examination of appli*
cants for teachers’ licenses will be
held at the College in Bainbridge,
beginning Wednesday morning
at 9 o’clock and continuing two
days. The examination will be on
the common school branches in
cluding physiology and the science
and practice of teaching.
All parties desiring to teach in
the white public schools of Deca
tur county before the next state
examination and who do not hold
a license issued for this county
are expected to take a special ex
amination.
