Thus far there has been less bird*
hunting for the season than at any
time in recent years. Local hunters
are either too busy, or bird dogs are
scarce.

accompanied by Miss Emma Miller
of Waycross and will spend some
time in the city.
Manager O’Brien of the Hotel
Wainman is steadily growing in
popularity as a host. Indeed he is
one of the very cleverest hotel men
in this end of the country.
Col. John C. Chason was in the
city Tuesday of this week. Col.
Chason on aoconnt of ill health is
rusticating on his father’s plantation
in this county. He is very much
pleased with the chant-e.
The ladies of the Methodist Par
sonage Aid Society will give an oys*
ter supper at the old court house
square on the afternoon and evening
of Dee. 3rd Every one is cordially
invited to attend.
Oscar Peck has resigned his posi
tion as nignt clerk at the Wainman
and moved to Savannah. Marshall
Scott succeeds as night clerk and
will no doubt prove very efficient.
Oar last week’s issne was held
open for the general presentments of
the grand jury, and we presume they
were read with interest all over the
county. In order to get in these it
was necessary to defer the printing
of the paper until Saturday morning,
banoe oar readers did not get their
paper on Friday as they tre accus
tomed to do
One of the specially attractive
features of the new court house, ts
the judge’s stand and the clerk’s
desk, which is the work of the Jester
Bros, of this city. These young men
are rapidly comiug to the front as
cabinet makers and novelty work
men. The town is to be congratu
lated that she has a firm of such
competent workmen within her bor
ders. About twelve months ago
they opened business on a small soale
in this city; from that day to this
they have not had an idle moment
and their capacity has been increased
several times.
The new Lasseter Hotel on Water
and Florida streets has been com
pleted and turned oyer by the con
tractor, Mr. C. M. Welsh. It is
modern and convenient in every
sense of the word, Mr. Lasseter
will move in next week and the
patrons can rest assured that they
will receive the very best attention
and the best cuisine of a public hos
telry, as it is well known that Mr.
Lasseter is one of the cleverest and
most accomodating hotel men in
Sonth Georgia.
News of a painful accident wbioh
