weeny and his staff of
“The cold chilly blasts of De
cember” have extended into Jans
uary. Never since I can remem
ber have I experienced such a
steady cold winter in this climate.
Since the first of November the
weather for continued cold has
evened up with the climate of the
northern states. However, it has
been enjoyable and healthful, and
indicates by the destruction of
disease germs that the summer of
this year will be a most salubrious
season; and that we may expect
the most bountiful crop year ever
experienced by the farmers. 1904
opens propitiously for old Decatur
the best county in the greatest of
the Southern States.
A great deal is expected of the
Reform Council elected last Wed
nesday. Bainbridge is now the
“outgrowingest” little city in the
state. Her prosperity is being
heralded near and far, and her
citizens are proud of her and are
-banking heavily upon her future.
Nothing will conduce more to her
progress than the very best of local
government. The “open door” to
all people and all enterprises that
would add to our best welfare as a
town is the motto of all our citi
zens. 1904 has dawned propitious
ly upon us, and already indicates
what is necessary to our continued
prosperity. If we live up to the
advantages with which we are sur
rounded during this good year we
are sure to come out on top. And
in this work we are certain that
our new government will aid to
the extent of its ability.
It would be a capital ida for the
new council to look into the safety
of the opera house, and see that
proper arraingements are made for
the safety of the people who con
gregate there, in case of fire, pan
ic etc. The late Chicago theater
horror is an object lesson that no
munidipal government should be
slow to learn. Every precaution
should be taken to secure the safe
ty of those who assemble in places
of public resort. Suppose an ac
cident should happen right here in
Bainbridge. Focewarned is fore'
