The attention of onr readers is

Mr. A. L. Mumford has assumed

Last Wednesday morning was the
coldest of the season thus far in
Bainbridge. The thermometer drop
ped to twenty three degrees.

Miss Luoy Hinson who bas|been in

General offioes in Bainbridge, and
will make her future home in this
city.
Mr. C. A. Crews who has been the
efficient bookkeeper tor the Flint
River Store for some months past
has resigned bis position and in the
hear future will move, with bis fam
ily to Faceville Ga.
Mr. Cbas. (J. Rogers of Thomas
ville arrived Monday and has accep
ted the management of the Oak
City market on Water Street. He
is a congenial young man and will do
well with the new market.
Mr. J. M. Floyd has moved into
the home recently bought by him on
Broughton St. He has spent a con
siderable sum in remodelling the
building and he now owns one of the
very substantial reidences of the
city.
A slight fire at the residence of H.
J. Bruton disturbed the performance
at the opera house Tuesday night.
No material damage was done, al
though had the fire ooourred a few
hours later the results might have
been serious.
We understand that Col. A. L.
Townsend has recently purchased
another handsome cottage at Pana
cea Springs Fla. Mr. Townsend and
family usually spend a portion of
the summer on the ooast and it was
with this view that the investment
was made.
Wo are requested to announce
that beginning with next Sunday
morning Rev. Jno. R. Jester will de
liver a "series of sermons entitled
“Christs’ message to His Church.”
The series will be composed of seven
sermons whioh will be given one
each Sunday morning.
The retiring Board of Aldermen
dad their, final meeting Monday
night, confining themselves however
to the transaction of routine busi
ness. The new Board will take
charge Monday night next, Under
the administration of the old coun
cil Bainbridge. has greatly grown
and prospered; we have every reason
to expect it to continue prosperous
in the future. Good men are retir
ing from that body, and good men
are assuming the reins.
Dr. W. H. Bryan talla an intona
ting story of a combat whioh reoent-
ly ooourred in Florida between two
splendid books. His friend was out
(till bunting for deer. He was at
tracted by a scramble in the under
brush near by and approaching the
place he saw these bucks fighting for
dear life. The hunter fired upon one
of the bucks, dropping him to the
ground; wberaupon the other book
pounced upon his fallen antagonist
and continued battle until a seoond
bullet from the hunter laid him low
also. So maddened wore the ani
mals that neither gaye attention to
the approach of their common ene
my.
One of the most distinguished vis
itors to the oity this week was Mr.
Rivers H. Buford, of Qumoy, Flori
da. Mr. Buford is an attorney of
ability and has a large praotioe in
Gadsden oounty. He is a candidate
before the people for the offioe of
state’s attorney for the Seoond Ju
dicial circuit ot Florida. His chan
ces are bright and he feels assured
of sucoess. He was accompanied by
Mr. W. S. McCall, sheriff of Gads
den county.
Mies Jennette Wilson oo-proprie-
tor of the Oak City Studio will in a
few days leave for Jonesboro Ark.
where she will reside in future. She
has disposed of her interest in the
business to Mr. Geo. H. Christensen
who will continue the business under
the same style of firm and quite up
to the splendid standard of work
whioh has gained a reputation for
the studio. Miss Wilson has many
friends in the oity who will regret to
see her leave.
Mr, L. C. Denmark of Quitman,
was in Bainbridge the first of the
week prospeotmg with a view of
opening up a harness store and sad
dlery. We understand that he was
favorably impressed with Bainbridge
and that in all probability he will
locate here. Mr. Denmark is a mem
ber of one of Brooks counties lead
ing families, and we should be glad
to number him among our people.
